📢 Accommodative miosis and visuomotor responses linked to myopia

A study in Cell Reports suggests myopia may involve abnormal accommodation and pupil responses, not just sensory retinal changes.

Myopic participants showed excessive eye vergence and greater pupil constriction during accommodation, potentially reducing retinal illumination and weakening ON pathway signalling. This mechanism may help explain associations between sustained near work in dim light and myopia progression — and the protective role of outdoor exposure and interventions that reduce accommodative miosis.
