The Diagnosis: Borderline personality disorder (BPD)
What Is BPD? According to PSYCOM, a person with borderline personality disorder has "inappropriate or extreme emotional reactions, highly impulsive behaviors, and a history of unstable relationships." Symptoms vary from person to person with BPD. A few of the more common symptoms include: "a distorted sense of self, difficulty feeling empathy for others, highly changeable moods that can last for several days or for just a few hours, hostility, and a history of unstable relationships that can change drastically from intense love and idealization to intense hate."
Lucy is a bossy bully who suffers from BPD. She really shows no empathy for sweet Charlie Brown and pulls the football away from him whenever he tries to kick it, just to humiliate the poor chap. She torments her brother, Linus, and exhibits extreme mood swings with angry rants. She constantly fishes for compliments and deep down, she struggles with insecurity and low self-esteem.
