✨ Milestone Moment ✨

Please help us celebrate our doula sister Kim Racette of Angel Touch Doula, who just supported her 200th birth! 🕊️

Even more meaningful—standing beside her in this photo is the very first baby Kim ever supported as a doula, now grown and there to welcome her cousin into the world. A full-circle moment that beautifully captures the heart of this work. 💫

Kim, your presence, wisdom, and commitment have touched 200 families and counting. What an extraordinary legacy you’re building. We’re so honored to have you as part of the Doulas of the Southwest.

Here’s to you, Kim. 💜

🌸 Shoutout to our doula sister Laura at Soothing Presence Birth Services for welcoming her first June baby! 🌸

This birth marks a beautiful full-circle moment—supporting a returning family Laura first walked alongside nearly five years ago during her early days with the UNMH Birth Companion program.

Her calm, compassionate care continues to touch families in our community. We’re so grateful to have her as part of the Doulas of the Southwest family!

🔥 Can We Please Retire the Phrase: “At Least You Have a Healthy Baby”? 🔥

We need to talk.

Because if you've ever said this to a new mother—even with the best intentions—you may have unknowingly dismissed one of the most significant experiences of her life.

Let’s break it down:

➡️ “At least you have a healthy baby” is often used as a way to wrap up a story that feels too big, too uncomfortable, or too painful to hear. It sounds kind. But it silences.

It says:
❌ Your feelings don’t matter.
❌ Your story is inconvenient.
❌ Only the baby’s health counts.

Listen—of course we’re grateful for healthy babies. OF COURSE.
But coming out alive is the bare minimum, not the whole story.

Birth is not just a medical event—it’s a psychological, emotional, and spiritual rite of passage.
How a woman is treated, how she feels, how she emerges—this MATTERS.
We can love our babies and still grieve the way we were treated, the way our birth unfolded, or the way we felt erased.

And yes—sometimes expectations are shaped by idealism or hope. But that doesn’t mean someone deserves to be shut down when reality hits hard.

If you don’t know what to say when someone shares their birth story, try this instead:
💬 “That sounds like a lot. Do you want to tell me more?”
💬 “I’m here for your story too—not just the baby’s.”
💬 “You matter in this. Your experience matters.”

To every mother who’s heard “at least you have a healthy baby” and felt the door slam shut on her pain—
We see you. We believe you. Your story is valid.

We can do better. And we must. Help us out and please share 💜
