I was sitting on the plane ✈️ on the way to my long awaited ski vacation 🎿 when I got the email saying my MRI results were in… I expected the ACL issue, but the issues with the meniscus is what made me decide that I wouldn’t ski ⛷️ sad😭😭😭😭. There’s a chance that the issues with my meniscus can heal and remain asymptomatic if I treat my knee really nicely for another few weeks. And that’s a big deal. An ACL surgery can lead to a complete recovery. Scooping out some meniscus can be fine… or can lead to a more vulnerable knee many years down the road. I’ve got long term dreams of another half a century of relying on my knees for active fun- so missing out on some epic skiing this weekend is a price I was willing to pay. I’m so grateful that I’ve got a background in physical therapy so I could interpret and understand my MRI results, interpret the symptoms I’m having, and put it all together into an exercise plan that will get me the fastest and best possible recovery after this injury. Please think of me if you ever get into this situation and want some insight into the situation. I’m not here to make any decisions for you- but I absolutely will do my best to explain your situation so you can make the best decision possible for you (without having to wait and wonder for weeks while your insurance is getting around to authorizing the care you need!) An injury is less scary and less depressing when you’ve got an understanding and a plan.

Still need a Christmas gift idea? Give the gift of health and self empowerment. I've got lots of programs on my website. Physical Therapy Telehealth sessions with personalized exercise videos. A golf program for the avid and aging golfer in your life. Fall Prevention Masterclasses for anyone you know that might not be that steady on their feet anymore. Etc. If you don't personally know of anyone that needs an at home health program, then please consider donating a program to a person in need. And if you are that person that needs the donation, then please let me know. I would love to think that everyone could have access to something that makes them feel better, helps them to safely be as independent as possible, and helps them to avoid costly pain and suffering.
Cheers to an awesome, healthy 2021!

Woohoo - it's FRIDAY! Remember to take a few moments for yourself today. This is something I forgot to do yesterday while I was at work, and then I wasn't able to get relaxed even after I got home, (no matter how many chips I ate 🤦‍♀️). I find that if I remember to breathe and stretch and consciously release the stress building up throughout my day, that I'm much more relaxed and able to enjoy my evening. Don't wait until you get home to smile and exhale. HAVE A GREAT DAY ☀🤩😎

If you've been told you have arthritis and that "there's nothing you can do", then LISTEN UP! I've seen a bunch of patients pull through their doomsday diagnosis of suffer or surgery, and come out with a pep in their step and a smile on their face. Physical therapy can help ease the pain of arthritis. It absolutely can. Let me know if you want the long version explanation or just the SOLUTION. And don't forget to tag a friend!

My husband and I filled many of our quarantine days out walking in nearby neighborhoods. In fact, we're still at it! It's a great way to get some fresh air and out of the house, and a great way to stay/get in shape. We took a selfie on each of our walks- enough to fill up a photo album :) Going for a walk is a great way to get some exercise. I've never met a back surgeon that didn't absolutely encourage his back patients to get out and walk - before and after surgery. It's low impact, and you can take it at your own pace. Overall, a great way to exercise! But I have met some people intimidated about the walks - and it's mostly people that are concerned about their knees. In this short video I share a tip and an exercise that helps take away that intimidation. Check it out- then get out there and take a hike! https://youtu.be/54ZVMD5Ct78

I've had so many patients tell me they wish they could walk, get around their house, run errands, and do things for themselves. And I've helped many of them reach their goals. Safety is the number one concern. Please ask me how I can help you or your loved one!

Safety first! Always. But I'm sure you have plenty of reasons to work your hardest at avoiding being stuck in a wheelchair. I'd be super happy to help you reach your goals. I've got a whole program on walking right and avoiding falls coming out in time for Christmas. Get it on your wish list :)

I've had my share of broken fingers and toes, but have realized that buddy taping is not the answer. It causes more pain, and goes against the anatomy. Here's my full blog on the topic. What's been your experience? https://insightintoinjury.com/why-i-dont-buddy-tape/
