I was sitting on the plane ✈️ on the way to my long awaited ski vacation 🎿 when I got the email saying my MRI results were in… I expected the ACL issue, but the issues with the meniscus is what made me decide that I wouldn’t ski ⛷️ sad😭😭😭😭. There’s a chance that the issues with my meniscus can heal and remain asymptomatic if I treat my knee really nicely for another few weeks. And that’s a big deal. An ACL surgery can lead to a complete recovery. Scooping out some meniscus can be fine… or can lead to a more vulnerable knee many years down the road. I’ve got long term dreams of another half a century of relying on my knees for active fun- so missing out on some epic skiing this weekend is a price I was willing to pay. I’m so grateful that I’ve got a background in physical therapy so I could interpret and understand my MRI results, interpret the symptoms I’m having, and put it all together into an exercise plan that will get me the fastest and best possible recovery after this injury. Please think of me if you ever get into this situation and want some insight into the situation. I’m not here to make any decisions for you- but I absolutely will do my best to explain your situation so you can make the best decision possible for you (without having to wait and wonder for weeks while your insurance is getting around to authorizing the care you need!) An injury is less scary and less depressing when you’ve got an understanding and a plan.
