“When They Return with Their Miracle in Their Arms”
There are moments in an obstetrician’s life that don’t fit on a prescription or in a medical chart. One of the most beautiful is when a mother returns to the clinic with her newborn in her arms. That little one who was once just a heartbeat on a screen now breathes, cries, smiles… and we see them like a miracle come back, now with a name and a face.
It feels as if life itself walks back in, wrapped in soft blankets, smelling of milk and hope. In those few seconds, time stops. The fatigue disappears. And the heart fills with a kind of emotion that needs no words.
Because it’s not just the baby who returns. The mother comes back too—different, stronger, with a new light in her eyes. The father comes back, perhaps with tired eyes, but with a proud smile full of love. And with them return the echoes of long nights on call, the nerves of labor, the tears of relief. It all makes sense again.
Being an obstetrician means having the privilege of planting a little piece of the future with every birth. And when that future comes back to greet me with a yawn or a tiny grasp of my finger, I feel part of something immense, quiet, and sacred.
Thank you for coming back. For sharing that moment with me. For reminding me that, despite everything, life keeps being born—and that it’s always worth being here to witness its first breath.
