I used to think tea was all sugar and syrup—until cancer changed everything.

After my diagnosis, I learned about green tea’s anti-angiogenesis benefits (that’s science speak for stopping blood flow to tumors). I went from sweet tea to Sencha + Gyokuro. And I’ve never looked back.

Now, I share tea with my yoga students—because healing happens one cup, one breath, one mindful step at a time.

When your heart is open, you feel everything more clearly—your emotions, your energy, and even the presence of others around you. You feel connected.

Science agrees. The HeartMath Institute shows the heart creates the body’s most powerful electromagnetic field. And yes—love is part of that signal.

But when the heart closes, you shut yourself off from clarity, connection, and inner peace.

Yoga and meditation offer space to soften those walls and let go of the emotional weight your body holds on to. Breath by breath, you learn to recognize tension, release what no longer serves you, and return to your heart.

Start with small steps:
– Breathe into your chest
– Practice heart-opening poses
– Choose compassion over judgment
– Give without expecting
– Stay open, even when it’s hard

The result? More connection. More calm. More clarity.

I walked into my first yoga class exhausted. Years of hardship. A cancer diagnosis. Sleepless nights. I went looking for breath and rest—and found a new way of living.

Yoga didn’t fix everything. It changed everything.

It gave me strength. It taught me how to return to myself. It showed me I am not my diagnosis or my pain. And now, I help others do the same.

Yoga isn’t just a practice. It’s a path back to wholeness.

Feeling scattered or overwhelmed? Try this.

Ujjayi, or “Victory Breath,” is a powerful yogic technique to help anchor your focus and calm your nervous system.

Used during yoga or on its own, this breath connects body, mind, and energy. It increases circulation, builds inner heat, and steadies your thoughts.

Here’s how to start:

Inhale and exhale through the nose with a gentle throat constriction

You’ll hear a soft, wave-like sound

Inhale to a count of 4–6

Pause

Exhale to the same count

Repeat for 3–5 minutes

This simple practice can change how you move, think, and feel.

Welcome!

Welcome to my new website Healthy Living With Hope.

Almost two decades ago I got serious about making my lifestyle my medicine after I was kicked out of infertility treatment and told that it would be impossible for me to have another child. I was overweight, undernourished, addicted to soft drinks and fast food and I wasn’t moving. I had been diagnosed with several chronic “incurable” illnesses all with poor long-term outlooks.

As I took ownership of my own journey, my approach evolved to include how I eat, live, move, and deal with the stresses of life. At first, my focus was on feeling better, but later my focus broadened to include living in a more connected and heartfelt way.

My journey has not been a straight line upward. There are peaks and valleys, and the best I can hope for is to hold onto that place of balance somewhere in between, and the knowledge that when I don’t balance is still there within reach.
