Speaking to one of my clients yesterday
He knew something BIG was coming
He's been running further and further each week for the last month
At the beginning of 2022 he'd set himself to run a 5k by the end of the year
You see he'd never run before this time last year
He was always the guy at school that came in last when you had to run around the field
Was always the fat one that people bullied because he couldn't keep up
That version of him has permeated into multiple facets of his life
But all of that is starting to change now
Because slowly but surely, through a combination of exercise, challenge and mindset work
We're repositioning who he is in his own mind
Because that fat kid from school can't run
He eats to cover up emotions from hugely stressful times of things that have happened in the past
He loses control when he's on holiday and the wheels come off
But this man is a completely different beast
This man has lost over 70lbs on his journey
This man has made a promise to himself and his partner he's never going back
This man's starting to view and think of himself for the first time ever as an athlete
And ask himself questions like
"what would an athlete do?"
"How would an athlete act?"
"How would an athlete eat?"
Our self identity is the number one element that affects change for the long term.
No diet or exercise plan is going to help you if your self identity doesn't shift
It's why so many people lose and then re-gain even more weight, perpetually on a yo-yo cycle, never able to truly break free and regain control
You have to view yourself differently
You have to be willing to step into a future vision of yourself and emotionally connect to it
Constantly reframing in your own mind who you are and how your standards reflect this new version of you
There's a formula I use in my blueprint to do this:
Self identity = trust x authority x repetition
Next week this man will run a half marathon
Because he's no longer that fat, scared kid
He'll do it because he's an athlete and that's what athlete's do.
