Holiday Stress- GONE!!
Just kidding... nothing can take away holiday stress, and coupled with COVID, it can all be too much. Stress is often times the cause of physical symptoms like high blood pressure, headache, upset stomach, low energy, insomnia, colds... oh my gosh.. there's too much to list!!
We can't make it go away, but we can manage our reaction to it! Try these when you're the one coming unwrapped!
1. Take a deep breath. Anytime, anywhere. Even 1 deep breath can reduce blood pressure and reverse the stress response. Inhale slowly for about 6 seconds, hold for a second, exhale for 7-8 seconds. Feel yourself relax. Practice. It'll get easier!
2. Get some exercise. Take a walk. A brisk walk- even 10 or 15 minutes- reduces stress hormones and depression. Take your dog, your spouse, child, or have some alone time!
3. Let your family and friends help you! Just ask when you need help. Others don't know what you need unless you tell them.
4. Smile! It’s true! Smiling not only makes you happier, but it lowers your heart rate and reduces stress!
