// essence // i am returning.
seems that life has been non-stop lately. typical for summer - fit it allllllll in, with little time for rest and digest. i always find grace and ease in the simplest of moments : walking the dogs, enjoying a cup of tea, or stopping my day at 2pm to read my favorite book. i have learned over again that always going is not sustainable, and that i can return to my essence by way of just being. simple. unrefined. and most important, without judgment towards myself.

im taking the day to return home. what returns you to your essence?

it helps to reduce kapha, which tends to be very awake this time of year.
never heard of it? it's great for detoxification, as it stimulates the lymphatic system -- your body's drainage system. stimulate blood flow, remove toxins & nourish your skin.

this is what i love most about ayurveda. there is no one-size-fits-all approach to being "healthy" or eating well.

🌻S P R I N G 🌻

The season of renewal.

One would think that the transition into Spring would be well-anticipated and easy to navigate after a long winter season. However, the change of seasons is often the time when we feel the most imbalanced. Nature's qualities are shifting -- and our bodies are shifting to prepare for a lighter and sweeter season. Staying in tune with the qualities of nature, and finding daily routines to balance those qualities will help to keep you well through the shift.

A few daily practices to keep you elevated:

-Eat cooked, light foods
-Think of foods with heating and drying qualities to break through the cool, wet and heavy qualities of the Spring
-Add lots of pungent/bitter spices to your meals -- ginger, cumin, pepper, clove, fenugreek (my fav!) & turmeric
-Wake before the sunrise
-Take a brisk walk every day
-Soak in some sunshine - Vitamin D is magic
-Think energizing yoga poses (back bends, twists, and lateral movements)
-Practice Kapalabhati -- a kriya (cleansing practice) to help you remove ama (toxins) from the body
-Dry brush your skin before you shower to help remove toxins and stimulate your body's drainage system
