My drive home today was met with with this magnificent rainbow. I had to stop the car and take it in. Really.. take it in. To pause for a moment and remember the “magic” of it all.

Rainbows can symbolize hope, peace, acceptance and love. But most importantly, they show us that withstanding the storm can lead us to see the beauty in it all afterwards. I’m grateful for that reminder today.

Quick smoothie bowl snacks on this hot May Day. 💚

These bowls are always a huge hit with the kiddos, and myself! Very quick to assemble, this only took me about 5 minutes. This recipe is for approx 4:

2 cups frozen mango
1 ripe banana
1 cup chopped pineapple- I only had fresh but frozen would work to as long as it’s ripe!
1 tsp honey
1 cup of fresh organic kale ( I always sneak in some green where I can)
1 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/4 cup unsweetened oat milk (any milk will do, almond ,coconut, cashew)

Blend up and mix well until it’s thick and creamy. You’re going to need a good blender for this one! Spoon into bowls and garnish with all the goodies:

💚 H**p Hearts
💚Chia seeds
💚Unsweetened coconut flakes
💚Granola
💚Pumpkin seeds- raw- any nut or seed works as well
💚Other frozen or fresh fruits

Packed with antioxidants, fibre, protein, healthy enzymes for digestion, and flavour!

Nut Free Buckwheat energy balls.

This is a simple and quick recipe my 9 year old just whipped up! He was feeling like he wanted a boost and insisted on creating his own recipe, and viola! They taste amazing! Done in less than 10 minutes.

This recipe is packed with fibre, healthy fats, and protein. Medjool dates are loaded in potassium, magnesium, calcium , fibre, antioxidants and b vitamins, which are great for energy!

From what I observed as his sous chef, here is the recipe:

1 cup of Medjool dates pitted- we softened ours in warm water for 5 min
1/2 cup buckwheat flakes- Bobs red mill creamy buckwheat is what he used but oats work as well
1/2 cup unsweetened coconut flakes
1/4 Raw pumpkin seeds ( we use gold top organic brand)
2 tablespoon h**p seeds
1 tablespoon coconut oil
1 tablespoon maple syrup
Pinch of salt
2 tablespoons of Wow butter creamy- can sub for peanut butter or sunflower butter

Blend all together in a food processor for about 3 minutes.

Mix in:
1/4 chocolate chips- he used Enjoy Life brand as they are nut free. I also like cocoa Camino brand.
1/4 dried cranberries unsweetened

Roll, refrigerate for about 20 min and enjoy!

Keep extras in the fridge or freezer as quick energy or school friendly snack.

Today, I was really feeling the need for some grounding and retreat. So I took the opportunity to get my hands in some dirt, and plant my plant babies to give them the chance to grow and flourish on their own, which will also provide my momma plants the ability to continue to thrive.

I find planting and keeping my hands busy very therapeutic for my mind when it starts to spiral with info overload. Some other things I find helpful when I need some re centering are:

💜Warm showers/ hydrotherapy
💜A yoga class, usually a flow that keeps me moving
💜Cooking and baking (baking usually involves something with dark chocolate ;))
💜 A walk, where no calls or texts are allowed, music only!
💜Music- sometimes it’s a zen sound bath, sometimes it’s classical, and sometimes it’s loud R&B or rock to get my ass jumping and moving in my living room!
💜 Sipping a coffee (usually decaf it I’m already feeling anxious) or tea and journaling
💜 Reorganizing or purging my living space
💜 Lighting beeswax candles around my space. ( I love the smell of beeswax)
💜 A break from social media and internet for 24-48 hours

After over a week of soups, broths, juices and smoothies to nurture us all through taken turns being sick, we all have our appetite back are turning to my Italian Sunday roots for some hearty bolognese fusilli. Gluten free pasta with organic beef and my amazing neighbours homemade family sugo (sauce in Italian).

If you’re looking for something hearty, here is the recipe:
You will need:
1 yellow onion
2 large carrots
3 celery stocks
2 garlic cloves
1 pack ground beef (organic if possible or grass fed, antibiotic free, can sub with turkey or chicken)
1 14 can crushed tomorrow’s or your neighbours family sugo ❤️ (you can add another half can if you don’t want it as thick)
1 tbl olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
2 tsp dry oregano
1/4 tsp chilli flakes
1 tbls thyme
1 pack of whole grain, or gluten free pasta

Sauté grounds beef in a large pot breaking it into small pieces. Add salt and pepper to taste. Once the meat is browned, set aside. In the same pot, sauté diced carrots, celery and onion for 5 minutes, or until onions are translucent. Add finely chopped garlic. Sauté for 1-2 min. Add ground beef back in, tomato sauce/sugo and dried herbs. Bring to boil, then cover and simmer on the low for at 30 min. The longer, the more flavour.

Bring pasta water to boil, add a pinch of salt and cook according to directions. Once pasta is cooked, lightly coat in olive oil, plate and scoop sauce on top.

Garnish with fresh Parmesan and/or h**p seeds for added crunch and nutrient. Serve with a side of mixed greens, rapini or whatever your vege choice!

This morning I was inspired by to get a little cold therapy in to start my day! And it felt AMAZING!

Cold Therapy, or “Cryotherapy” is known for its many health benefits.

💙Stimulate the Immune system
💙Support a Healthy Mood
💙Reduce pain and inflammation
💙Ease sore muscles
💙Stimulate the lymphatic system and gentle detox
💙 Boost metabolism
💙 Reduce Anxiety

Whether it is dunking in the fresh snow, or if you are new to this, starting in the shower between alternating hot and cold (always ending in cold), you can begin with 10 seconds at time , then slowly increase to 30 seconds, and eventually 3 minutes or more of cold exposure.

Hopefully my kids don’t lock me out tomorrow! 😂

Over the past couple of years, it’s been an emotional roller coaster for many.

These 5 principles known as the 5 Principles of Rei Ki, have been something I try to come back to as often as possible to remind myself to be present in today’s moment. To remind myself that anger doesn’t get me very far, or do justice for my body and soul. To remind myself that I can support and nurture myself and those around me better if I take a step back to centre and look at all of the possibilities for progress. These words have brought me moments of refocus and inward looking many times. I wanted to share them today in case this resonates with you:

Just for today, I will not worry
Just for today, I will let go of anger
Just for today, I will live my life with integrity
Just for today, I will give thanks for my many blessings
Just for today, I will be kind to my neighbour and all living things

We’ve got this. Let’s continue to advocate for what’s right in this world, and be there for one and other.

You’ll find me here these evenings, washing away the day playing with sound with some new items to my collection.

I’ve always found sound baths to be incredibly relaxing and therapeutic, and there is a reason for that. Although we cannot visibly see sound, the frequencies and vibrations created can deeply calm the body and mind, reducing stress, promoting good sleep, calming anxiety and can even support pain reduction.

Sound has been used for centuries in ceremony and in healing. Even before the therapeutics of sound healing could be scientifically measured, people could FEEL the power of sound through voice, drums, gongs, chimes, bowls, tuning forks etc.

If you’ve never experienced a sound bath, I highly recommend it. Even for kids, especially during this time where any added calm and harmony is welcomed. You may be surprised how long they will sit there with a chime or bowl as you watch the magic in their face throughout the process. ❤️

Sometimes I flip the pages in my old journals and read them like a story book. I find it therapeutic. Today, one flip and I landed on this entry. It was a time where I had no choice but to focus on self care. I felt “broken”, literally and figuratively.

I post this today as a reminder to myself and anyone who resonates with this, that in times of feeling “broken”, for whatever reason that may be, it’s even more important to step back into a place of self love and patience, take steps to nurture your body, mind and spirit, and have faith that healing will follow and make you even stronger in so many ways.

What makes a perfect picture?
Every year we dress these monkeys up and try to capture a “perfect” picture.... but my favourites are always ones like these. The ones with total disregard for any direction we have given them. The ones where their authentic personality shines through a lens in a split second. The ones that remind me to laugh and go with the flow of the moment.....one reminder I’m especially grateful for these days.

My daughter Lucy and I had some one on one time today and she insisted on a spa date. It turned out to be JUST what we both needed. Thank you Lulu!

I wanted to share this Avocado-Honey face mask that we made. It was so refreshing and my skin felt awesome afterwards.

We found the recipe website and it was simple and perfect!

Hello and Welcome to Whole Health: Nutrition, Yoga and Wellness. I am Cristina! I am mom of three amazing kiddos, a certified Holistic Nutritionist, a Certified Yoga Instructor, a Rei Ki level 2 practitioner. I’ve created Whole Health to share healthy living strategies for anyone looking to create a healthier more balanced lifestyle, which I truly believe comes from creating wellness not only in our bodies, but our mind and emotions as well.
