Jen and I had the privilege of teaching a Tai Chi taster class at Warrawong library yesterday. 25 people attended and they were such a delightful group to teach. They came with curious, open minds and tried some shibashi Qigong as well as a small Tai Chi flow. Thanks for inviting us Warrawong Library!

Ever wondered what our instructor Jen gets up to when she's not teaching Tai Chi? Shes also a talented textile artist and some of her beautiful work is currently on display at the Nan Tien gallery. If you would like to you can go along and see it in the next few weeks.
In the last photo of people doing Tai Chi exercises you might be able to spot our Anna from Tuesday class looking confident and calm as she enjoys a group shibashi session at the recent Nan Tien open day.
We love it all.

I saw this on another Tai Chi page and laughed! I've felt like this so many times.
The feeling of finally knowing which way everyone else is "flying" and feeling the flow is such a glorious one.

The link for the audio we listened to this morning for our Shibashi practice can be found here. https://taichioz.com/audio/Qigong_Warmup_Full.mp3
You can download it and listen to it anytime you'd like to enjoy the peace of Shibashi.
Thie is the website for Ric Bozlan (Tai chi Oz), one of the teachers Jen and I have. He's a fabulous teacher, and his website is an amazing source of tai chi knowledge!

Why do we start our Tai Chi classes with a gentle Qigong practise? This was the question I was asked last week by a participant, and I wanted to explain it here.
Qigong uses a combination of slow graceful movements, intentional breathing and quiet attention. When done in this manner it has a lot of benefits, including both physical and mental.
When we all turn up to class, there is always jovial banter, happy exchanges of pleasantries, and gentle chatter, and this is perfect.
When we start a class with Qigong exercises, though they may seem very simple, they quietly draw our attention from our outer world to a place of balance, calm, and flow. The perfect place from which to start our Tai Chi practise.

This is an older article I stumbled across today. I've read it previously and enjoyed the way Jennifer Wong describes her experience of trying Tai Chi and in particular her amusement at some of the name of the movements.
When we first start Tai Chi, it can feel as she describes it, like we are trying to solve a Rubik's cube puzzle with our body, however coming to class each week means at some point we all have that moment where we truly feel the relaxation and flow that Tai Chi invites us to experience.

If I'm asked, "What are the benefits of Tai Chi?" the list below is what I will tell you.
BUT, if I'm asked, "what is my favourite thing about Tai Chi?" my answer becomes this. It's the way I feel when I do it, calm and peaceful.
What is your favourite thing about Tai Chi?
