🦻 Hearing aids & ear wax

Hearing aids can be life-changing, but they can also make ear wax build up more quickly.
Because the hearing aid sits in the ear canal, it can stop wax from moving out naturally — instead, wax gets pushed further in and compacted.

I often see people who feel their hearing aid “isn’t working properly anymore”, when actually the issue is blocked ears rather than the device itself. This can lead to muffled sound, whistling, discomfort, or feeling like your hearing has worsened.

As a nurse, I always look at the bigger picture — hearing, balance, safety, and quality of life. Something as simple as checking and clearing ear wax can make a huge difference, especially for those who rely on hearing aids day to day.

Today I spent the day at the Copthorne Hotel with InSync Physiotherapy completing our statutory mandatory training. Ensuring I remain fully up to date with current guidance, best practice, and professional standards., as a CQC-registered service, ongoing training is an essential part of maintaining safe, effective, and high-quality care.

Just a little community message about ear health, especially for our older neighbours and those living with dementia.
Blocked ears and excess ear wax can do more than just affect hearing — they can also contribute to balance problems, increasing the risk of falls. For someone already living with memory difficulties or confusion, this added imbalance can make day-to-day life even more challenging.
Regular ear checks are a simple way to spot problems early and keep people safe, comfortable and connected.
To support our local community here in Hexham, I’m offering free ear checks for anyone living with dementia. There’s no obligation and nothing invasive — just a gentle look to see if everything is healthy or if further care might help.

How are we nearly at the end of September? I've been so busy with summer holidays, family and lots of ear care, that I'm saying a very big belated thank you to the hexham courant for the amazing write up back in August. I've recieved some lovely feedback in the last few weeks from clients too and want to let you all know how appreciative I am for all the ongoing support you all give me. ❤️🙏
