In the heart of our nation, countless communities face the struggle of limited healthcare, where even basic needs go unmet, and lives hang in the balance. Yet, change is possible. By reaching out, offering guidance, and lending support, we have the power to transform lives.

Every bit of help—be it medical advice, supplies, or a caring presence—brings light to the darkest struggles.

Empowering communities through healthcare means creating hope where hope seems lost, building resilience, and providing the care every human deserves.

This is how we uplift our nation: one step, one community, one life at a time. Together, let’s bring healing where it’s needed most.

Emergency care in Nigeria should not depend on payment, paperwork, or discretion.

NEMTALA is a proposed law that will change how emergency care is delivered by requiring hospitals to provide medical screening and stabilizing treatment before asking about fees or documentation. It sets clear standards for safe transfers and introduces accountability for denial of care.

This reform is about protecting patients, supporting healthcare workers, and strengthening trust in the health system.

Emergency care is a legal right.
NPAG is advocating for the nationwide adoption of NEMTALA.

NEMTALA stands for the National Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act.

It is a proposed law that will make emergency medical care a legal obligation in Nigeria, not a discretionary service. Under NEMTALA, hospitals will be required to provide emergency medical screening and stabilizing treatment before asking about payment, insurance status, or documentation.

This reform addresses long standing problems in Nigeria’s emergency care system. Patients are still turned away because they cannot pay upfront. Accident victims are delayed for police reports. Women in labor are refused care when fees are unpaid. These practices put lives at risk and undermine trust in the healthcare system.

NPAG is advocating for the adoption of NEMTALA to stop the denial of emergency care, establish clear standards for stabilization and safe transfers, and introduce accountability for hospitals that fail to meet their obligations.

Emergency medical problems require immediate action.
Care must come first.
Payment and paperwork can wait.

This is the change we are calling for in Nigeria.

Hospitals in Nigeria still turn away patients during emergencies because of unpaid fees or missing documents.
Accident victims may be rejected for lack of payment or police reports.

Women in labor are often delayed or refused care for the same reasons, even when their condition is life threatening.

These practices persist despite existing health policies and continue to place vulnerable patients at serious risk.

Emergency care is often treated as optional, rather than as a basic obligation of the healthcare system.

NEMTALA is a proposed law that will require hospitals to provide emergency medical screening and stabilizing treatment before asking about payment, insurance status, or documentation. It will also set clear standards for safe transfers and hold facilities accountable for denial of care.

Emergency care is a legal right.
Timely treatment saves lives.

NPAG is advocating for the nationwide adoption of NEMTALA to protect patients and strengthen accountability in Nigeria’s health system.

NPAG Celebrates Excellence at the Ubuntu Gala: Honoring Dr. Rosemary Oredu

The Nigerian Physician Advocacy Group (NPAG) recently hosted its much-anticipated Ubuntu Gala, a landmark event that brought together physicians, healthcare leaders, advocates, and community partners in a powerful celebration of service, unity, and excellence. Rooted in the African philosophy of *Ubuntu*—“I am because we are”—the gala highlighted the collective impact of Nigerian physicians and allies who continue to advance healthcare advocacy, mentorship, and community engagement.

A major highlight of the evening was the recognition of outstanding service in celebration of ANPA Florida’s 10-year anniversary, marking a decade of unwavering commitment to physician advocacy and community empowerment in Florida and beyond.

Among the honorees was Dr. Rosemary Oredu, who received a distinguished Award for Recognition of Service. This honor acknowledged her exceptional dedication, leadership, and long-standing contributions to the mission and growth of physician advocacy within the Nigerian and broader medical community.

Dr. Oredu has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to service, mentorship, and professional excellence. Through her work, she has played a vital role in strengthening physician engagement, fostering collaboration, and uplifting the next generation of healthcare leaders. Her passion for advocacy and community service embodies the very essence of Ubuntu—placing people, compassion, and shared responsibility at the center of healthcare leadership.

The award presentation was met with heartfelt applause as colleagues and community members reflected on Dr. Oredu’s impact, integrity, and selfless commitment over the years. Her recognition served not only as a personal honor but also as an inspiration to others to continue serving with purpose and excellence.

The Ubuntu Gala concluded as a night of celebration, reflection, and renewed commitment—honoring the past ten years of ANPA Florida’s achievements while looking ahead to an even stronger future. Dr. Rosemary Oredu’s recognition stood as a shining example of the values NPAG and ANPA Florida uphold: service, leadership,
