What a gift our youth are. 😍🥰❤️
I was so fortunate to have spent yesterday afternoon and today with some AMAZING Grimshaw Public School classes doing Cardiac Crash CPR/AED training. A huge shout out to the wonderful teacher who coordinated this for the second year- Fay Weardon!!! Enormous thanks also go to Brittany Gillespie for helping yesterday and facilitating the sessions this morning by herself!❤️❤️❤️
In the quiet of the empty theatre between classes, I thought of how different life may have been… and how mannequins have claimed your space in this world. Missing you, Brock Ruether. This is in your memory- always.💔

An AED is the only way to restart a heart in cardiac arrest, and we need more of them. When used in the first minutes of collapse survival can increase to 70%. AEDs are meant for the public to use—no certification necessary. The device determines if a shock is needed so you can’t hurt the person. parentheartwatch.org/get-involved/get-an-aed/

Tomorrow is Restart a Heart day, and the Excellence in Resuscitation Coin ceremony here in Red Deer. Today I was so lucky to connect with precious friends, receive a beautiful plaque to highlight special coins from my AHS EMS Science and Research team partners and to meet the young survivor whose lifesavers we will honour tomorrow with the Project Brock award.
What an amazing gift to be in the presence of such wonderful and remarkable individuals. ❤️💕🥰😍

My darling, amazing human family- thank you soooo much for the congrats and well wishes on the upcoming investiture into the Alberta Order of Excellence. It truly takes a village- and this honour is as much yours as it will ever be mine.

Although it’s been 12 years since Brock Ruether died, is wanting to do a follow up news story about the impact of his death, this incredible world changing journey- (made possible though the connection and love of a global village), and a bit on Brock’s short life story.

If you have any video of Brock during his short life, any photos or video of the Rock for Brock event after Brock’s death, or videos/photos of his adventures, snowboarding, volleyball/basketball games that may still be available after all this time- please reach out to me. And know I hold you in my heart. Always. 💕

There is a kind, brilliant, and wonderful superstar named Matthew J.Douma, who gathered and collaborated with other extraordinary people. He built an epic research project… and the results: amazing! Winning the Emergency Nurses Association - Journal of Emergency Nursing Authors of the Year Award is INCREDIBLE.🤩
Such heartfelt congrats Matt and Team Awesome!!! So very proud of his work and grateful to be affiliated with such amazing people who have been intimately familiar with cardiac arrest.
I look at this and miss your face, Brock. May your beautiful life and tragic death continue making a difference for others.💔💕

Working with the AHS EMS Science and Research team - I realized there is SO MUCH I don’t understand about the EMS world. I thought: hmmm, I’ll take my EMR this summer- it will be fun!
HA. So hard! What was I thinking?!?!
But, it was super fun connecting with these beautiful young people. August was spent studying like I have never studied before, LOL! And I grew to love my classmates with my whole heart. Missing their faces already.

Such a wonderful event. Good for Kids is an organization that I’ve been proud to be part of for the past 10 years. We support kids and families that need financial assistance with medical expenses, medical travel and various other issues. The golf tournament is our yearly fundraiser, and it begins with the Kidsfest. Thank you to the wonderful friends that came to help out this year!!!
Additionally, Project Brock Society stepped in to help out with sponsorship- and I love that we got hole 16. Same as Brock’s final age. Big hugs to all who are participating and playing this weekend, you are so appreciated. ❤️

May 23, 2024 is the Canadian Paramedicine Research Day and it starts that morning!
To all healthcare workers, paramedics, first responders, ECOs, EMDs, cardiologists, nurses, any folks with any interest in having CPR/AED training in schools, or an interest in paramedicine research- please feel very welcome to register for this free event! There are EXCELLENT sessions held throughout the day.
Registration deadline is May 22nd, 2024 - the anniversary of Brock Ruether's SCA death.
This is such an important event focused on the value of research and changing outcomes in positive ways.

ECO Jenna Hollman answered a call for a patient who was experiencing a cardiac arrest after playing hockey. CPR was started and an automated external defibrillator (AED) was retrieved and utilized by individuals on scene.

Hollman did a fantastic job recognizing the immediate need for CPR, and gave instructions in a clear, easy to understand manner. Information was clarified when needed and help arrived quickly. This patient made a full recovery.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is April 14 – 20 and AHS recognizes our ECOs and the invaluable role they have in our health system. Thank you to our ECOs who support Albertans during their time of need.
