Doubt and Certainty

Two monks often had disagreements. The cause was difference in pace. One monk was called "Soengsai" and took some time with his tasks. The other monk was called "Rappappa" and was quick with his tasks.
Zen master "T" sent the two monks on a journey for their development, instructing them to "Travel around the world and be back at the monastery in 365 sunsets."
Soengsai traveled East and took it easy. Even went one day to watch a snail cross the road. He hesitated whether to help the snail cross that dangerous road. He did nothing. The snail got across without any problems.
Rappappa traveled West and took a pen and paper to keep track of the sunsets, just to be sure. He made a mark every night.
When Rappappa arrived back at the monastery, he counted 364 sunsets and thought "so, now I have a day to spare and am definitely on time, and Soengsai won't be able to say that, because he is always so slow.".
But to his great surprise, Soengsai also came running. And Soengsai told him that he thought he would be a day late. Not sure, but thought he had counted 366 sunsets.
Once at the monastery, the other monks were already waiting to hear the stories, but Zen master T. first poured tea for everyone and said "After tea you may tell your story." Rappappa thought "now I've rushed so much and have to wait because I get a mug of tea that's too hot, and I'm still not sure I counted the number of sunsets correctly.
In contrast, Soengsai sat back and thought "I have a little more time because the tea is too hot anyway and I can think a little more about whether I counted the number of sunsets correctly."
Zen Master T. grabbed his mug and smelled the tea, enjoying the smell, and felt his hands being warmed. Slurping, he took occasional small sips and enjoyed them with a wide smile. After his last sip, he had to tell both monks that their tea had cooled and they could drink it.
Rappappa and Soengsai drank their tea and told their story, but got into a disagreement about the number of sunsets. Whereupon zen master T. intervened and said "according to my calculation, you are both right." "Indeed, here at the monastery we past exactly 365 sunsets " "We didn't go East or West" and let a long silence fall. then put all the cups on a tray and continued telling. "It doesn't matter whether you doubt or seek security or enjoy life." "As long as you do that which suits yourself", "Always be on time for yourself". "And now you are both just in time to do the dishes together".
