Next Step is an initiative that started because, after years of working in an eating disorder unit, I recognised the dire need for additional assistance after completing treatment. I understood that very simply, the recovering addict/alcoholic/eating disordered client could not maintain the structure that was enforced in treatment. I therefore set up Next Step and have been assisting clients since 2014. Upon further investigation, it dawned on me that very little assistance was available to adolescents. This pained me deeply as I knew of only one facility that catered for in-patient treatment for young adolescents and one outpatient facility. After being approached by two separate families for help, I decided to extend my services. I now not only cater for individuals who have left treatment, but also offer our services to those who have not been in treatment before.
