Ending the Epidemics in Rural American - RHSPN Meeting - April 2021
The Rural Health Service Providers Network's April 2021 meeting will be focused on the AIDS Drug Assistance Programs' Roles in Ending the Epidemics in Rural America.
As jurisdictional Ending the Epidemic (EHE) plans are evolving, ADAP programs are similarly adapting to their key roles in addressing HIV and Viral Hepatitis.
Given their prominence as an essential safety net to ensure sustained access to treatment for People Living with HIV (PLH), as well as being the primary entry point into care for a majority of PLH who are newly diagnosed, no EHE plan can succeed without coordinated involvement.
RHSPN Co-Founder & Executive Director, A. Toni Young, moderates a panel including:
Ending the HIV Epidemic's Senior HIV Advisor & CEO, Harold Phillips
NASTAD's Director of Health Care Access, Tim Horn
South Carolina Dept. of Health & Environment Division Director for STD/HIV/VH, Ali Mansaray
Missouri Department of Health & Senior Services Interim Chief for the Bureau of HIV, STD, and Hepatitis, Alicia Jenkins, MSA
Missouri Dept. of Health & Sen. Service Director of ADAP & Core Services, Penny L. Williams
Oklahoma State Department of Health HDAP Programs Manager, Cindy Boerger (not pictured)
Hep C 101 with Robin Lord Smith
This webinar covers basic education about the Hepatitis C virus.
Participants will learn about the natural history of the virus, potential impact on the liver, transmission risk factors, testing, treatment and treatment access issues, and liver healthy lifestyle choices.
ADAP in Rural America
The Rural Health Service Providers Network's March 2021 meeting will be focused on the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) in Rural America.
With the onset of COVID-19, People Living with HIV (PLWH) have faced numerous barriers to care and treatment, including the loss of employer-based insurance coverage, loss of income, and continuity of care, all of which has increased reliance upon state ADAP programs to ensure that their needs are met.
After a year of pandemic shutdowns, quarantines, and reduced provider and case management services, state ADAP programs in Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas are just now realizing the financial strains placed on their finite annual budgets, and are struggling to figure out how to meet the needs of those clients.
RHSPN Co-Founder & Executive Director, A. Toni Young, moderates a panel including North Carolina AIDS Action Network's Lee Storrow, South Florida AIDS Network's Joey Wynn, TAN Healthcare's Dena Hughes, Community Access National Network's Jen Laws, and Legacy Community Health's Lindsay Lanagan for a vital conversation about the state of ADAP programs in non-Medicaid expansion states and how cuts in services and coverage will have a disproportionate impact on minority, poor, and rural People Living with HIV across the country.
