Contraception after birth and suitable for breastfeeding :
An excellent and realistic question, especially after birth, where is the mother to protect her health and continue breastfeeding at the same time.
Here are the best options recommended according to the World Health Organization (OMS):
⸻
1. pills for breastfeeding (progesterone pills only)
• Known by names such as: Microlut, Microval, Cerazette...
• Contains only one hormone (progesterone), and is safe for breastfeeding.
• Use daily and at the same time nonstop.
• Effective if used regularly.
• What affects the amount of milk.
Excellent if you like an easy, no medical intervention.
⸻
2. Uterine Cervix ( CU or hormone )
• Two species: copper spiral (without hormones) or hormonal spiral (such as Mirena).
• It is placed approximately 6 weeks after the birth, after confirmation that the uterus returned to normal.
• Very effective from 5 to 10 years depending on the type.
• Doesn't affect breastfeeding at all.
• What you don't need to think about daily.
Very appropriate if you want to take a break from the daily contemplation of birth control.
⸻
3. Injection every 3 months (Depo-Provera)
• Contains progesterone.
• Given by injection every 3 months.
• Effective and safe during breastfeeding.
• The cycle can be affected (cut off or change), and fertility can be delayed a little after stopping.
Good choice if you prefer to solve every period without daily pills.
⸻
4. Subcutaneous implant ( implant )
• Like an Implanon, small the size of a match stick, placed under the skin in the arm.
• last up to 3 years.
• Contains only progesterone, does not affect breastfeeding.
• VERY EFFECTIVE.
Excellent if you like the long term but don't like the spears.
⸻
So which one do we choose?
• If you like a daily solution: Breastfeeding pills (Microval).
• If you like to be completely relaxed: spiral or plant.
• If you like a period solution: injection every 3 months.
