🧖♀️Managing Melasma with Confidence | Evidence-Based Skin Care 🌞
Melasma can be frustrating—but it can be managed effectively with the right guidance. As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner specializing in aesthetics and skin care, I follow the BAD (British Association of Dermatologists) guidelines to deliver safe, effective care.
Here’s what you need to know 🧬:
✨ Sun Protection is Non-Negotiable
Broad-spectrum SPF50+, 365 days a year. Melasma is UV- and visible light-sensitive, so daily sun protection is your best defense—yes, even when it’s cloudy.
✨ Topical Treatments That Work
First-line therapies include:
• Hydroquinone (often as part of a triple combo cream)
• Azelaic Acid – great for sensitive skin
• Retinoids – for skin renewal
• Tranexamic Acid – both topical and oral options are now supported in newer evidence
✨ Advanced Therapies
Chemical peels, microneedling, and low-fluence lasers can be used with caution, but should never replace good topical therapy and sun protection. Timing and skin preparation matter!
🚫 What to avoid?
Harsh treatments, unregulated lightening creams, and sun exposure. Melasma is chronic and relapsing—quick fixes can cause more harm than good.
💡 If you’re struggling with pigmentation and not sure what’s safe or effective, don’t guess—get assessed. I offer bespoke consultations to help you manage melasma with evidence-backed care and long-term results.
