The zoom call Q & A was a fantastic event with concerned, compassionate IDD families and teachers from the "New Horizons Transition Program" @ Churchill Park School. Parents and staff asked tough questions about how to gain access to Medicaid's Supports for Community Living (SCL) waivers. Answers focused on ways to go after the best support options for the medically fragile, young adults, which would help families with insufficient in-home personal care and social options. Blue Sky is ecstatic about its case management partnership with Churchill Park. It commits to help the families with the SCL application and psychological evaluations for those who need SCL or Michelle P. Waiver (MPW) services. Please contact: [email protected] for more information.

Blue Sky was inspired by real champions today — Christopher Sierra and Logan, transition coordinators from New Vista. We are touched by their willingness to transition those people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to transition from facilities to live in our community.

New Vista is commended for their good works and contribution to help others at Hazelwood live independently in our community: https://newvista.org/developmental/hazelwood-residential-facility Hazelwood is an Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) providing residential services located on 52 acres in Louisville.

“I know a champion!” Thanks to our heroic case management industry-stars: Rhonda Shaver, Denise Maples, @ Tara Clarkson, Laura Frick for their emergency residential placement actions to rescue our Medicaid members from the jaws of homelessness early this past Friday evening. Thanks to Joe Clarkson and DDID's quick-action by Mary Allen and Elizabeth Kreis to provide emergency residential support! Special kudos to @ Rhonda Shaver, who landed at Louisville Muhammad Ali Airport and immediately hit the ground running and drove to her client's rescue to find a residential option for the weekend.

It's "Mental Health Awareness Month" and Blue Sky was honored to meet with our first executive director and team psychological services provider, Dr. Lee Look. He inspired us to acknowledge the profound impact of a Global Pandemic on our mental health. He reminded us to pat ourselves on the back for surviving this tumultuous year. Dr. Look applauded our resilience to survive and to continue to do things that feed us or satisfy our passions in life. This practice may increase our resiliency and empower us to find joy and happiness regardless of our personal situation or challenge. It's "Look"-ing like clear, blue skies ahead for all of us!

We will continue to deliver services to people with developmental disabilities that work for them. Keeping health care approaches simple with plenty of praise continues to be essential ingredients in our person-centered processes for Medicaid members.

After a parent shared the story of her son being held down to get his vaccine, a mock clinic was set up to give others with developmental disabilities a trial run before receiving their shots.

Kentucky, let’s band together to end this Pandemic, as we protect our most vulnerable citizens or those born with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). As you help your loved ones to get vaccinated, it's helpful to know that COVID-19 vaccine side effects are normal, mild, and temporary.

As a care giver, I am so proud to support my brother-in-law, Peter. He voluntarily took a stand for his own health and received Shot #1. He was happy to report the next day: "No side effects ... not even a sore arm!" I reminded him: "Great! And, every person is different." He agreed. Shot #2 comes around in 28 days.
