More than you might think — each year in the U.S., 20,000–40,000 lung cancers are diagnosed in people who never smoked or smoked fewer than 100 ci******es, according to the CDC. 🚬🚭

So what’s behind it? One major factor is radon gas — a naturally occurring, invisible gas and a leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.

Dr. Alden Maier, WakeMed Heart & Vascular - Thoracic Surgery, breaks down how lung cancer can affect non‑smokers, what symptoms to watch for, and what everyone should know about risk. 🌟

Congratulations, Ryan Collins, PA-C, for being recognized as the January 2026 APP Spotlight Recipient!
👏❤️
Ryan was nominated by three of his peers who described him as “detail oriented, data driven, valuable, and willing to learn.” He feels that his patients are what drive him to go above and beyond. He says, “I think getting to know them on a personal level, more than just for their diagnosis, has led to positive patient experiences and outcomes.” In his free time, Ryan likes to spend time with his wife, newborn daughter, and two dogs. He is also an avid spots fan!
