During last week’s Medicine Grand Rounds at Cedars Sinai, MAST investigator Ali Rezaie, MD presented about the elemental diet! He discussed the underutilization of elemental diets as a therapeutic modality especially as access and palatability of these diets are improving dramatically.

The June Obesity special issue of The American Journal of Gastroenterology was released this week!

We’re honored to have contributed an article to the “Small Bowel” section. Our paper on obesity and the microbiome explores 4 microbial profiles in the small bowel that were identified in normal weight and overweight subjects and subjects who have obesity.

Wrapped up another fantastic conference! 🎉

Here’s a RECAP of our posters 👇

1️⃣ Antibiotics differently affect the gut microbiomes of male vs female 🐀. Findings suggest that the microbiome may play a sex-specific role in testosterone metabolism
2️⃣ The gut microbiome is known to be altered in PCOS subjects. We found that there’s a single microbial species that induces a PCOS-like phenotype in an animal model

Medscape recently provide an excellent summary of our study regarding management of GLP-1RA use prior to endoscopy procedures.

“We will need more data on what is the optimal duration of holding GLP-1 RAs,” Rezaie said. “But given our data and current ASA guidance, stopping these medications prior to elective procedures is the safe thing to do.”
