Nepal Leprosy Trust/Lalgadh Leprosy Hospital and Services Centre (NLT/LLHSC) is one of the world’s busiest leprosy hospital centres located near the hot steamy border area with India. With 400 or more outpatient visits each day, it is in urgent need of strengthening its facilities. A project has been embarked upon to do just that.
With several months of planning completed, this initiative involves addressing LLHSC’s most urgent needs - constructing a new Operation Theatre Complex, a new house-keeping unit, more modernised guest accommodation units, and a cafeteria. Additionally, the project includes renovating and expanding the hospital laundry, modernising the training kitchen, and expanding the existing dining hall. Furthermore, the existing hospital kitchen - providing daily food for our 70-100 inpatients - is also to be modernized.
In August 2022, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) approved as part of its ASHA 2021 program (American Schools and Hospitals Abroad) a grant for the Strengthening of our LLHSC initiative. This grant aims to support LLHSC in its mission to become a modern and globally respected centre for medical excellence, research, and education.
NLT/LLHSC expresses deep gratitude to USAID/ASHA for this opportunity, which enables us to maintain and strengthen the delivery of high-quality healthcare and services to those in need. The enhanced capacity of the hospital will be of great benefit and lifesaving for patients, as well as beneficial to trainees, and staff alike. Thankyou USAID/ASHA!
