All learning does not have to take place sitting at a desk or with pencil and paper or a computer. Neurodivergent learners benefit greatly from other options, like sports, especially very active sports and activities that give them an opportunity to get a lot of movement. Let’s redesign opportunities for these students. https://www.usevisualstrategies.com.

Visuals aren’t just for behavior charts or daily schedules. They support attention. They help students process information. They make communication clearer. For many autistic students visuals match the way they learn best. They provide structure, build routine routines, reducing anxiety, and create predictability. And here’s the bonus: visuals don’t just help the student. They helped the adult become a better communication partner. If we know visuals work… Why aren’t we using them more? And using them for more purposes?

Why do we do that?
Why are autistic students grouped by diagnosis instead of by skill level?

Skill level isn’t part of an autism diagnosis.

But with autistic students, we often lump everyone together - as if their learning needs are the same.

The truth?
Autistic students have a wide range of strength and challenges. - just like everyone else.

The diagnosis tells us more about how they experience the world. . . But not what they’re ready to learn.

Autism may mean they need to be taught differently. Skill level tells us more about what to teach.
