You just have to listen to Catherine talk about her mission with MothersBabies to get a feel for the immense passion and energy she has thrown into helping others avoid going through what she went through with her daughter...

In 2013 Catherine’s daughter became life-threateningly ill with a dangerous auto-immune disease - one that no-one could explain. A young woman, who had grown up in perfect health was now critically ill, and no-one seemed to be able to identify the source or cause of her illness.

What ensued was a journey of discovery for Catherine as she researched, spoke with experts across a range of medical and health fields to find the underlying reasons that caused auto-immune illness.

Her quest brought her to many experts in women and children’s health, including Professors and Doctors working at the Royal Hospital for Women and University of NSW. She also met her co-founder, biotech expert, Alan Liddle.

Catherine realised through the emerging science of the microbiome that the lifelong health of a baby is impacted by the baby’s mother’s pre-pregnancy and pregnancy health and that the baby’s immune system is the key determinant of the baby’s health for life.

Through this journey, MothersBabies was born.

A registered charity, our work aims to improve the health of babies (and their parents) worldwide.

A lactobacillus-dominant semen microbiome can help increase chances of successfully falling pregnant….

Same goes for a vaginal microbiome…

The abundance of lactobacillus is influenced by diet and lifestyle, so here are some foods (high in betaine) that you can increase in your diet to help give your population of lactobacillus a little boost…

How many of these do you include in your diet already?

To discover more about this, sign up to our FREE online, 10-module course…Comment ‘LACTO’ below and I’ll send you the code!

The Carnivore Diet reduces your gut symptoms, so it must be good for gut health right?

ah…nope…

No matter what that ‘gut health influencer’ claimed, this is just not the way ‘gut health’ works…

Just because the carnivore diet reduces symptoms, it does not mean your gut is ‘healthier’… Sure, you need to reduce those symptoms to get to a healthy gut, but an all-meat diet will do more harm than good.

We define a ‘healthy gut’ as one with a diverse and thriving microbial population….The more diverse, the better…

The key to diversity is plant foods…Unfortunately, certain plant foods can cause gut symptoms in more sensitive guts, but cutting them out is not the answer…

To find out what kinds of food you SHOULD be eating to enjoy a healthy gut and all the benefits that come with that, head to our online course and check out our modules on diet and the gut microbiome.

Our online course is currently free…. Just comment ‘GUT HEALTH’ below and I’ll send you the code to gain free access.

Did your support network drop away as soon as the birth was over?

Some women feel incredibly well-supported throughout their pregnancy…People really gather around… massage your back…fuss over you… For some, this support sort of ‘drops away’ as soon as the baby is born…

You might feel like you’re left with a ton of decisions to make every day, but you’re exhausted, overwhelmed and this is all SO NEW! All eyes have turned to that cute little bundle (understandably!) but YOU still need support!

Allow us to step in here…

MothersBabies has created a bundle specifically for you in those early months and years AFTER you’ve given birth…

It’s called our ‘Post-Birth Bundle’ and it’s a part of our online course ‘Healthy Gut, Healthier Baby’, which is designed to empower you on your fertility. Not all probiotic strains are created equal.

There are over 50 probiotic strains in the gut microbiome, and each of these offers different health benefits…The problem is, many of the strains are not well-researched, so benefits aren’t always as certain as the Pharma industry might have you believe!

One particular strain has been lucky to experience more time in the research spotlight than others…Bifidobacterium.

💫DISCOVER HOW TO INCREASE YOUR BUB’S BIFIDOBACTERIUM
We outline some proven ways to naturally increase your baby’s abundance of Bifidobacterium in our online course ‘Healthy Gut, Healthier Baby’, in Module 7 ‘Breastfeeding and Baby Immunity’, as well as diving into existing evidence for whether supplementing with Bifidobacterium is a good idea.

All modules, including Module 7, are currently FREE, so it’s a great time to take advantage of this offer!

Simply comment ‘BIF’ in the comments, and I’ll send you the code to gain free access.

Do you know your PREBIOTICS from your PROBIOTICS?

They’re both popping up all over the shop (literally), being added to various foods that then get to slap a bold health claim like ‘gut loving’ across their label…

But what *are* prebiotics and probiotics?

Are they actually worth having?

And if yes, *how* should you be consuming them?!

First up, YES, both prebiotics and probiotics are ‘worth’ having!

Prebiotics feed your gut bugs, helping them live, multiply, and produce beneficial substances (called postbiotics!) that benefit our health in a number of ways.

Probiotics add extra microbes to your existing population, adding diversity and strength in numbers…

DO YOU NEED A SUPPLEMENT THOUGH?

Not necessarily!

Prebiotics and probiotics can be found in plenty of foods…garlic, onion, asparagus, banana, artichoke, for prebiotics, and yoghurt, sauerkraut, kimchi, and kombucha for probiotics…just to name a few….

If you don’t have any particular issues, and are just looking to optimise your gut health, why not start with the whole food version? Cheaper and more delicious than a supplement!

🧄 What’s your favourite way to include pre- and probiotics in your diet??

We hear a lot about PROBIOTICS, but what about PREBIOTICS?

These are JUST as important (if not more!) as probiotics, because they provide fuel for your existing gut bugs, encouraging a resilient, diverse and stable gut microbiome.

Try to add in some of these prebiotic fibres every day…

By the way, if you haven’t tried Jerusalem artichoke already, try baking them in the oven with some extra virgin olive oil, pepper and salt! Not a commonly eaten veg here, but seriously delicious!!

Have you tried it?
