Like a tree rooted in love and reaching for the light, I bend—not break.🌿

I’m 82 years old.
I have 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren… and a 12 m² room.

I no longer have my home or the things I cherished,
but I have someone who tidies up my room, prepares my meals and bed, checks my blood pressure, and weighs me.

I no longer hear the laughter of my grandchildren.
I don’t see them grow up, hug, or argue.
Some come to visit every 15 days, others every three or four months.
Some… never.

I no longer make croquettes, stuffed eggs, or meatballs.
I no longer knit or crochet.

I do still have one pastime: solving sudoku puzzles.
They entertain me a little.

I don’t know how much time I have left,
but I must get used to this solitude.
I go to occupational therapy and try to help, as much as I can, those who are worse off than me—
even though I try not to get too attached.
They disappear often.

They say life is getting longer and longer.
But why?

When I’m alone, I look at photos of my family and a few keepsakes I brought from home.
And that’s it.

I hope future generations understand
that we build families to have a tomorrow (with our children)
and to give back to our parents the time they gave us while raising us.

"Taking care of those who took care of us is the greatest honor."
