☀️ Stay Active, Stay Cool ☀️

Whether you're walking the dog, jumping rope with the kids, biking, swimming, or playing backyard soccer, it all counts. 🙌 BUT… summer workouts come with their own challenges. When the heat (and humidity) rise, your body works extra hard to cool itself, and that can get risky fast.

Here’s how to stay active and safe when it’s hot out:

🕒 Time it right: Avoid peak heat (noon to 3PM). Early mornings or evenings are your best bet.
💧 Hydrate like it’s your job: Water before, during, and after activity, even if you're not thirsty. Electrolytes help too (yep, we’ve got those in-store!).
👕 Dress smart: Lightweight, loose, and light-colored clothes are key. Don't forget sun protection — hat, sunglasses, and plenty of sweat-resistant SPF.
⏸️ Listen to your body: Take breaks in the shade and know your limits. It can take up to two weeks to adjust to the heat.
🩺 Check with your doctor before changing up your activity, especially if you have chronic conditions or take medications that affect heat tolerance.
🤝 Bring a buddy: It’s safer (and way more fun).

🍓 Cool snack inspo: Frozen fruit, smoothies, crunchy veggies, chilled salads, and flavored sparkling water all hit different post-workout.

☀️ Dehydration vs Heat Exhaustion vs Heat Stroke

isn’t just feeling “a little thirsty.” Even mild dehydration can put you at risk for heat exhaustion or heat stroke, especially during the hottest months of the year.

🚨 Early warning signs of dehydration include:
- Thirst
- Dry/sticky mouth
- Cool, dry skin
- Headache or muscle cramps
- Dark or less frequent urine

🚨If things progress to heat cramps or , you may also notice:
- Dizziness or weakness
- Nausea or vomiting
- Heavy sweating
- Cool, clammy skin
- Fatigue

➡️ At the first sign of heat exhaustion, stop what you’re doing:
- Get to shade or A/C
- Sip water or suck on ice
- Use cold compresses on neck, armpits, or groin
- Rest

🔥 is a medical emergency. Call 911 if someone shows:
- A body temp over 103˚F
- Hot, red, dry skin
- Rapid pulse or shallow breathing
- Confusion, irrational behavior, or unconsciousness
- No sweating

This woman is basically fueled by kindness, knowledge, coffee and Hershey’s.

So in honor of her favorite holiday, here are some legit health benefits of chocolate (we checked with Johns Hopkins so it’s basically doctor-approved):

Need hand sanitizer, soap, sunscreen, or first aid items? We’ve got you.

Running low on prescriptions? For non-controlled medications, you can request an extra fill to stay prepared.

Supplements, OTC meds (like Tylenol, vitamins, or electrolytes), even pet meds — we can help with that, too.

Before you head out for the 4th, a few ground rules (because we love you):

- DO. NOT. DRINK. AND. DRIVE. Uber surge pricing is still cheaper than bail. Or worse.

- HYDRATE. And no, not with spiked seltzer. We mean WATER.

- WEAR SUNSCREEN. Clouds don't block UV rays. You will burn.

- Eat something. Don’t be the friend who passes out before fireworks.

We do not want calls from the ER or jail tomorrow.
Be safe. Make good choices.

The Fourth of July is fun for us—but for pets, it’s often a full-blown anxiety nightmare. Keep your furry friends safe and calm with these simple tips:

1. Create a calm space
A quiet, cozy room with familiar blankets or a crate can help them feel secure.

2. Muffle the noise
Close windows and doors, and play calming music or white noise to help drown out fireworks.

3. Exercise earlier in the day
A tired pet is a calmer pet. Get in a good walk or play session before dark.

4. Stay chill
Your pets look to you. Stay calm, avoid scolding, and try not to hover too much—it can make things worse.

5. Ask us about calming options
We carry a variety of over-the-counter calming aids like CBD, Rescue Remedy, and other natural relaxation supplements. Not sure what’s right for your pet? Call or stop by—we’re happy to help.

6. ID is a must
Make sure your pet’s collar tag and microchip info are up to date in case they bolt.
