Here in the U.S., we are moving into autumn. It is hands down my favorite season. Yet, like many of us, my heart has felt so heavy with the constant flood of uncertainty and emotion, and this Fall is determined to bring more of both. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As a therapist and even more so as a human, I sit with both uncertainty and with emotion. I’m familiar with the overwhelm, the worry, the pain that can arise in that space. As we move into a new season, I wanted to pass along a few of the things that helped bring a little calm in those moments. As you move into the new season, maybe they can help you as well.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❥ Ground yourself in nature. Let the sun shine on your face, touch the grass, feel some dirt, let the rain fall on your face, crunch on the leaves as they fall to the ground.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❥ Breath. Deeply. Wholly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❥ Be present through your senses: count 5 things you see, 4 things you hear, 3 things you feel, 2 things you smell, and 1 thing you taste.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❥ Call a person who will shine their light on you and will also sit in the dark with you.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❥ Practice gratitude… sometimes if may feel like the appreciation meter is running low, stretch to find that one thing you are thankful for in this moment (finding the remote to turn of TV, a pillow,⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❥ Create daily rituals. Drink tea in a favorite mug, light a candle,, write in a journal, take a stroll.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❥ Create mood playlists. Happy, sad, frustrated — or just make a fall vibes playlist to capture anything that sings fall to you.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❥ Remember that while it’s wonderful to smile, to laugh, to feel love; it’s also okay to cry, to vent, to be frustrated.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❥ Say “thank you,” and “I love you,” to your family, to your friends, and, most importantly, to yourself.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And with that, thank you and love all of you who are here. So appreciate the community we are forming. ❤️
