Oh no, not more printed metal....

Jesse designed this around the erupting 2nd bicuspid to achieve maximum retention. Yes, the AI designs are great but our in house designs are better in these situations. If you only have a hammer, everything looks like a nail. This is not the case in our lab, we design all our appliances, not AI.

A public challenge to our team members Christina and Claudia. Inman Lab will be exhibiting at the SSO next month and it is our tradition to create a retainer with an acrylic design honoring the theme of the meeting. This year's theme is The Day of the Dead, Google it to get some ideas. You might also want to create a 2nd design mimicking the artwork from their SSO Brochure.

Jesse designed this beast and I absolutely love it! I have asked him to use printed habit designs even if we are not using printed bands. The single structure of the same metal is superior in every way to laser welds and solder joints.

I want to thank our amazing team for a flawless week. Both our Office Manager and our Production / Lab Manager were on vacation. Our team did not miss a beat, all cases shipped on time and all office issues were handled perfectly. We are once again "Running Like a Swiss Watch" I am proud of you all!

Ever since we developed the Inman Aligner we knew how branded packaging can increase the quality of the patient's experience. We use branded packaging for our Inman Digital Splints (IDS), Digital Clear Aligners (DCAs) and of course Inman Aligners.

Jesse designed this exactly as the doctor asked. We since have made another but Jesse doubled back the terminal ends of the rake to create a softer terminal end. These fully printed Hyrax appliances are so beautiful and so strong!

I have posted many pics of the lab, I thought you might be interested at a peek of our warehouse. We used to rent storage space for our lab, it was close by and not too expensive. During the 2008 -2010 real estate meltdown we bought an office / warehouse. At the time I thought it was overkill but would be a good investment. This pic is from this morning and besides some of our family's personal items this is all lab inventory. This blows me away!

This will be much different from our typical posts as it deals with a rare issue we see from time to time. I want to invite others to share their thoughts and experience so maybe we can learn from each other. This retainer was returned for a remake, RX said "Remake, wires started rusting after one month" We obviously had no issue in remaking the appliance, I wouldn't want to wear that appliance myself. However I knew the wires did not rust, we only use medical grade Stainless Steel and it does not degrade. Years ago I wrote a paper regarding this and I called this Crevice Corrosion. Google Crevice Corrosion. So here is what I know happens: The acrylic ever so slightly shrinks away from the wires allowing the capillary effect / action from swallowing to draw fluid into the microscopic space between the wire and acrylic. This fluid discolors and stains the acrylic and it looks like the wire has rusted. However every time I have dissected an appliance that looked like this, the wires are never corroded. The acrylic surrounding the wire is discolored but the wire is fine. This happens so rarely I have not spent much time trying to figure out why. This appliance was fabricated on a printed model. The separator was painted on the model before the wires were waxed into place. Under magnification you cannot see any space between the wires and the acrylic. We know that acrylic shrinks so why doesn't this issue show up more often? FYI the acrylic looked like it had aged and was yellowish, almost a little brown. One of our team suggest that the patient drank coffee while wearing the appliance. Please share your thoughts and experience regarding this. We are never too old to learn from each other!

If you thought I posted too many Inman Aligner photos, strap in! I love the fit and finish you get with printed metal appliances. I love the flexibility that Jesse has designing them. He can easily add lingual bonding pads, reverse headgear hooks, Tad rings and more. I love the appliance will not discolor and will not break at a soldered or welded joint because it is one solid piece. Bonding and debonding is not an issue if you follow the simple to use protocols.
