Gilbert and Killingsworth also wrote, “the ability to think about what is not happening is a cognitive achievement that comes at an emotional cost”. ☀️ Basically, the more you’re not living in the moment the more you can be worried, scared, anxious, depressed, etc, about your past or your future. We all need time to day dream but a lack of focus also equates to unhappiness. ☀️ This is the reason meditation is a great tool for your mental health - it trains your brain to focus and be in the moment, and you can use those brain muscles when you’re going about your day!

If you had a March or April birthday, it was probably a pretty different one! What made it special in its very unique pandemic way? My bday was in March right before stay at home order hit, so I am thankful I got to be with my parents. I did miss out on seeing my friends though the following weekend. But I must say, technology has enabled me to catch up with more friends during this time and I’m very grateful for that!

Savoring the moment is proven to boost positivity and increase happiness. What’s a new moment you’ve been able to savor while quarantined? For me it’s been the extra snuggle time with the dogs and husband, taking a moment to watch the birds, and take in the flowers and nature in our yard. Or the taste of yet another loaf of quarantine banana bread!

Happy Earth Day! 🌍 Trying to keep my tiny piece of Earth that I’m currently confined to as beautiful as can be! Gardening, feeding the birds, and pulling weeds have been some of the best therapies for my mental health during this pandemic. I am so thankful for our beautiful Earth!

The real question is - are you going to focus on what you fear? Or are you going to focus on what you love and desire? 80% of your first thoughts are negative so it’s NATURAL to focus on what you don’t want. Changing your mindset into focusing on desire and love does not come naturally and takes a lot of intentional thinking. Intentional thinking that improves your happiness, your confidence, and your life. That’s why journaling works so well- you force your mind to focus on the positive, and then you have to write it down, giving it double the attention. The Happiness Journal gives you simple directions and 3 things to focus on a day so you know you’re putting your mind in the right direction.

These times have got us all on edge. All of the changes, uncertainty, unknowns, and non-stop news reading really makes the anxiety pop up from your subconscious when you’re just trying to finally relax and not think about anything. At least it has for me! These negative thoughts tend to SPIRAL and spiral quickly. All you need is THREE things- I am GRATEFUL for, I AM (affirmations), and I WANT (thoughts of love and desire, the opposite of the fear and anxiety you’re currently stuck on). Write them in your journal, on a blank piece of paper, or think about them over and over if you’re not by pen and paper. Use those negative thoughts and find the opposite and focus on that instead. ❤️

This was my mantra last night so I could sleep. I found myself having a handful of panic attacks this past week when I would go to bed. It’s hard to pretend that the world right now isn’t affecting me. Not to mention, the first panic I had it made me think I was having symptoms of Covid, but by the 4th time it happened I realized it was only during a calm when I’d feel this way. The awareness has helped me feel a little better. I’m not usually good at sharing these things, but I think we all need a little reminder that this s**t is hard on our mental health, and we’re all going through this together. Be kind to yourself. What you’re going through is normal.
