The foundation of your relationships with other people is our relationship with yourself. These books have shaped the way I show up for myself and for the people I care about.

“It Begins With You” is an honest, (mostly) gentle reminder that the way we love others starts with how we love ourselves.

“Drama Free” gives practical guidance for creating space and boundaries that feel nurturing, not distant.

“Codependent No More” extends a compassionate invitation to step out of old patterns and back into your own life.

Life is complicated. Little glimmers of whimsy and tiny moments of joy are reminders that even in tough times, there is so much good in the world. These little guys make me smile every time I see them. It’s a small thing, but the small things make the days brighter.

I was included in this short clip about A Warrior’s Peace and the amazing work Chris is doing. First responders carry a burden that is unique to the pressures and experiences that come with protecting others. Access to support and holistic treatment is critical for them and their families.

A veteran firefighter who turned to holistic therapies to heal his physical and mental health founded A Warrior's Peace to help others.

You’re going to hear me say this again and again, but that’s because it works. Don’t get stuck thinking about everything you have to do, just do the next thing that gets you closer to where you want to be.

The short version:
I’ll be offering a 30% discount on counselling sessions to teachers, educational assistants, and anyone else working in public schools for the duration of the strike. Spaces are limited, but I want to do what I can to support the mental health of educators, administrators, and support staff during this time. Please reach out with any questions, and feel free to share with the educators in your life.

The long version:
My mom was a teacher. Many of my friends and family members are teachers. I’m a former teacher myself, and I worked as an educational assistant while I was in grad school. I know first-hand the tireless dedication of people in public education.

For the past fourteen years, I’ve entrusted my own children to public school teachers. I still remember during the pandemic when I would have given almost anything to have my kids back in school. I was not built to homeschool four kids! When their dad and I split up, it was their teachers who watched out for them, who comforted them when they were away from us. Over the years, teachers have sent me notes about my kids’ strengths and the qualities they admire in them. They’ve also raised concerns when needed, helping me notice things I might have otherwise missed.

In a society like ours that relies on public services, it’s our responsibility as citizens to hold government accountable. We need to protect the teaching profession so that we continue to have qualified, dedicated educators in schools. Some say that if teachers don’t like their job, they should just find another. I strongly disagree. Imagine schools staffed with underqualified people. What would that mean for our children? What would lowering educational standards do to the long-term success of our kids, our communities, and our economy?

I hear from my own children how crowded their classrooms are, how many kids have diverse needs, and how many classmates require ongoing emotional or mental health support. There are simply too many kids with too many complex needs relying on too few teachers and EAs. This has to change. I want better for my kids and for this province I’ve called home my whole life.

I stand with teachers.

Working with people who are navigating thoughts of su***de and self harm is where my work began. I spent almost 5 years working at Distress Centre Calgary. 3 of those years were spent on the crisis line taking calls from people who had nowhere else to turn. Those conversations shaped my work with all of my clients.

If you are having thoughts of su***de or self harm, I hope you’ll reach out to someone. You don’t have to go through this alone.

A simple tool I encourage couples to use is this question:

“Do you need to be heard, helped, or hugged right now?”

Heard → Sometimes we just want space to vent and feel understood without advice or problem-solving.

Helped → Other times, we’re looking for practical solutions or support to move forward.

Hugged → For times when connection is what matters most.

This quick check-in removes the guesswork, reduces frustration, and helps partners meet each other’s needs more effectively. It’s a small shift, but it can make a big difference in helping people feel supported and connected.

So excited to be moving to my new space on October 1. Quest is joining AVA Psychology Group. It’s a big change, but I know it will be great. The office space is beautiful, the people there are warm and friendly, and the location is perfect. I hope to see you there soon!

I’m sitting here in a wave of grief and it’s caused me to reflect on how I’ve learned to accept and embrace this particular emotion. This is grief from my dad passing a number of years ago. I don’t know why it showed up today, I just know that it did.

Grief can be sticky. When new losses occur, past grief often comes up to complicate things. Grief can also be beautiful. A reminder of what once was. If I’m being honest, grief is still a difficult emotion for me. Maybe it is for you too.

So what do I do when grief visits me? I create stillness when I can. I sit in the feelings that seem to come with grief- sadness, anger, fear… and give my grief whatever it needs. Sometimes it needs rest, other times it needs connection to people who love me. Most often, I actively remember the person or thing that has been lost.

Tonight, that looked like me reading my father’s eulogy for the millionth time and allowing tears to come. My grief needed me to remember my dad and celebrate the bond between us, while acknowledging that I miss him terribly.

The relationship I have with my grief took time and effort to create. It took the help of a patient counsellor and a lot of leaning into the discomfort of difficult feelings. It took a lot of time and effort and became a passion in my work with clients.

What are some lessons you’ve learned about grief that might help others?
