Our Story
Prajñā/Pragya/प्रज्ञा (Sanskrit) is derived from the roots pra, meaning “preceeding/beginning” and jñā, meaning “consciousness/discerning knowledge”. Often translated as “insight” or “wisdom”, Prajñā is the highest form of knowledge (jñā) that one receives before (pra) the state of enlightenment and that is higher than the knowledge obtained by reasoning and inference.
In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, prajna is a state of perfection and heightened awareness that a yogi can reach after moving into samadhi (a state of meditative consciousness), which is the eighth and final limb of yoga.
In the Buddhist traditions, Prajñā is also the sixth of the six paramitas (perfections) on the Bodhisattva path. The essence of this paramita is the supreme wisdom, the highest understanding that living beings can attain – beyond words and completely free from the limitation of mere ideas, concepts, or intellectual knowledge.
