The ILE ASE School is a Ancestral Medicine + Rootwork 9 month Apprenticeship 2023🌿

Divination, the power an ability 'to foresee, to foretell, to predict, prophesied, connected to divine forces within , amongst, and above. It allows us to gain insight into a question or situation by way of an ancient ritual using sacred tools. Diviners use their ase, and wisdom through spirit or/and training to interpretation of how one should proceed by reading signs, events, or visions, or through contact with a supernatural, ancestral agency. Divination can be seen as a systematic method with which to organize
what appear to be disjointed, random facets
of existence such that they provide insight
into a problem at hand.

Nature, the fifth element, which represents the cycles of change and personal transformation. Nature’s way is to adapt, align, grow and transform. We can embody the element of Nature to reaffirm our authentic selves, to shed the mask, the false stories we tell ourselves.The element of Nature signifies the principle of change. It is transformation, mutation, adjustment, flexibility, cyclicality, life,death,and magic. Nature is vegetative, therefore it is all plants and landscape; and it is all animals as well. In the cosmological wheel Nature is situated to the east, opposite mineral, and its color is green. Nature invites us to change consciously and to welcome change. Just as mineral store information for our benefit, nature’s complex paradigm is a library to those who pay attention.

Earth is where we belong. She is our home. She gives us sustenance unconditionally and makes it possible for us to feel connected. Earth is where we go to and where we come from. The nourishment and support of the Earth Mother grant us the feeling of belonging that allows us to expand and grow because we feel strong
Earth, the third element of the cosmological wheel, is the mother who is inviting us to come home. The purpose of an earth ritual is to provide a sense of belonging, a remembrance of home, and an experience of being “grounded” in the most literal sense. An earth ritual can be as simple as “Lying on the Earth’s Lap”, and as complex and intense as a ritual burial.

Providing integrative Afro-Indigenous Medicine & Wellness, Healing Centered Wisdom Sharing, Ancestor Reverence, Ritual, and Rootwork to heal + build community. This program will be guided by Vodou Priestess Manbo and IFA Priestess , alongside guest wisdom sharers from Sistahs of the Calabash and folks from our afro indigenous communties !

This is a practitioner level 1 Apprenticeship , this prepares you to be your own spiritual practitioner! This program offers interventions to return back to our indigenous roots, that include a strong element of self-determined agency, as we all have the ability to heal ourselves and each other. This program acts as a full spectrum wellness program, including mental, emotional, physical and spiritual healing to address imbalances that manifest as a result of oppression, colonialism, and generational trauma.

Water, a key element that at the beginning cooled the raging fires and brought stability, reorienting the cosmic energy toward producing community.
When there is no water around, we are vulnerable to crisis. People, especially people in crisis, are naturally attracted to water. Many recognize that when they are in a place of distress we find peace at the waterfront. A sight of large water brings a feeling of quiet and peace. African healing wisdom looks at physical illness as a fire moving a persons energy beyond the limit of what he or she bear. This suggests that we all need water, and need rituals of water to stay balanced, oriented,and reconciled.

Meet one of the co-facilitators of the ILE Ase School.
Mawakana Onifade, Iya Ifaloba
I call on Egungun (Ancestors), Ifa, Ogun, Osun, Obatala and Olokun and Esu. These are the Orisa and Irunmole that walk with me the most. I have eternal gratitude for their guidance and gifts. Ase O.

My name is Mawakana Ayoka Onifade. I have been called many names during this lifetime and I embrace them all. I am the daughter of Annette P. Osborne Gaines, a Nursing Professor who hails from Alabama where my Hoodoo medicinal lineage is made clear from my great-great aunt Harriet, who was a Midwife for our family and many others, Following in her footsteps as a doula, I have been blessed with assisting in birthing 7 babies. I am the daughter of Lawrence (Larry) C Gaines, a Boston activist that loved Malcolm X and taught Karate to youth in the neighborhood. He believed “love heals”. His Black & Native lineage provided me with clairvoyancy and cartomancy.

I have been a practitioner of Ifa for 25 years.Iya Ifaloba (Ifa is King) is my Iyanifa (female Ifa Priest) name for the past 13 years.It reminds me that humble leadership is my path. In the Odu Eji Ogbe, the story talks about Orunmila wanting to make his priest a King on Earth. I was initiated in Oyo Nigeria in 2010 under the leadership and lineage of Baba, Dr. Wande Abimbola, the Awise (Worldwide, spokesperson for Ifa). I pay homage to him. Yet, also pay homage to Baba, Prof.Dr. Tony Van der Meer, who allowed me to sit at his feet, as he taught me the ways of Ifa Divinination and how to counsel clients in need. I am forever grateful.

I am a daughter, mother, wife, a life coach, spiritual healer, doula/birthwork, educator, restorative justice circle keeper and will graduate in Summer of 2023 to become a Mental Health Counselor and School Adjustment Counselor. I bring all of my selves to this work. Ase O.

The Fire Symbol represents cleansing and renewal because out of the ashes of a fire comes new growth and new thoughts and ideas. Fire acts as a Messenger and is a gift from the Great Spirit. Fire is a GATEWAY!
Fire is the orginal element of origin, the one that was prsent at the begining. its primal nature is combustion, warmth, vision, and feeling. its postion in the wheel is the south, the underworld below us.
Fire opens the doorway to the Spiritual World and allows our psyche to commune with other life presnet, past, nd future. Fire is like a connecing rod, and open channel. Fire is our pysche, the spirit part of us that knows what has always been. It is our ability to act, emote, and intuit.

Meet our Co-Circle Keeper ✨

Words from Manbo Chèche Fouye

I am a Manbo Asogwe living in Ayiti !
I grew up in a spiritual sanctified home, and learned from a very early age how important collective prayer and ritual makes access to the necessity of healing both collective and individual. I am the daughter of a Hougan the great granddaughter of Manbo Dantes and the great-granddaughter and many greats of farmers both on Gullah Geechee land and lands of Ayiti. I have travelled the world in search of how to create sanctuaries for Black folks with the traditions of our ancestors. I walk this lifetime as a certified Reiki Master and Clinical Herbalist/Rootworker, and Master Gardener/Urban Farmer, I offer a variety of healing services centered around African indigenous practices under the name Lakou Dantes

Through this rites of passage I will be offering the beautiful ancient traditions of Vodou + Hoodoo , and all the sacred knowledge I have learned through my herbal studies ✨

We are womxn of the African Diaspora, coming from the lands Of , Gullah islands , Ayiti, Barbados, Antigua, Turtle Island, Southern Bayous, Kemet, brought together by our ancient spirits to heal + build our indigenous locally and globally communities.

This space serves as MONTHLY sanctuary for Black, Indigenous People of Color; happening EVERY 3rd ‘Solday’ Sunday 6-9:30. We give birth and bloom to our School of Ancestral rites, ILE ASE, acting as both a school and sanctuary. Providing integrative Afro-Indigenous Medicine & Wellness, Healing Centered Wisdom Sharing, Ancestor Reverence, Ritual, and Rootwork to heal + build community; which addresses the whole spectrum including mental, emotional, physical and spiritual imbalances that manifest as a result of oppression, colonialism, and generational trauma. We seek to offer interventions to reclaim our indigenous roots by invoking our self agency, as well as strengthen the legacy of our traditional medicines in our community.
