The CDC’s advisory committee recently updated its recommendations, allowing more flexibility in giving the hepatitis B (Hep B) vaccine at birth.

But the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) is standing by its long-time guidance: routine Hep B vaccination at birth, 2 months, and 6 months to keep infants protected. Since universal newborn vaccination began in 1991, infant Hep B infections have dropped by 99%.

The Austin American-Statesman recently reported that in Central Texas, most physicians — including ARC Pediatrics — plan to continue following the AAP’s evidence-based recommendation. Our pediatric teams emphasize shared decision-making, high-quality care, and what’s best for your family.

1. Your baby is 42 to 89 days old at beginning of study
2. Your baby is healthy based on medical history
3. Your baby has NOT received their 2-month old vaccinations
