Time Under Tension
While many different strength training protocols exist, each with specific benefits, time under tension refers to the length of time that a muscle is contracted and uses slow, controlled movements. Instead of focusing on repetitions, TUT focuses on performing the exercise at a slower pace with less momentum, thus increasing the length of time a muscle is contracted.
Applying TUT to strength training can be an effective way to increase muscle hypertrophy. Unlike other types of strength training, TUT forces muscles to work harder and for longer.
