Anhedonia and depression arise when POMC neurons in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus become hyperactive as a result of chronic stress. Reducing the activity also reduces feelings of depression and loss of pleasure.

I just came across this article. I think most therapists would know this to be true, from experience working with trauma. It is good to see research confirming this, eliminating the possibility of confirmation bias being the explanation. Complex PTSD is associated with more serious mental health outcomes than other firms of trauma.
