Mastic gum, a natural resin from Pistacia lentiscus, shows promising laboratory results in inhibiting cancer cell growth (colon, prostate, stomach, pancreas, leukemia) by inducing apoptosis (cell death) and stopping cell cycle progression.

It acts via antioxidant properties and shows minimal effect on normal cells.

These findings are primarily in vitro (lab studies) or in animal models. Human clinical trials are currently limited. But this is a promising start.

Low blood levels of magnesium and omega-3 are strongly associated with development of atrial fibrillation.

Magnesium is crucial for maintaining normal cardiac rhythm. Magnesium deficiency allows the heart to become overly excited and beat too fast and too wildly (out of rhythm).

While deficiency links are clear, studies show weak evidence for preventing AFib with supplements if magnesium levels are already normal.

A number of studies show very high omega-3 supplements can actually cause atrial fibrillation!

Paradoxically, higher circulating (plasma) levels of omega-3s, often representing a healthy diet (fish, seeds, nuts, legumes, avocado, oils, seaweed, cod liver oil) have been associated with lower atrial fibrillation risk.

List of the worst foods for your heart and health: They're inflammatory, spike blood sugar (yes even the "diet" drinks) and damage your arteries and organs. Having them once in a while is okay but not every day.

1. Sugary breakfast cereals (empty calories)
- try eating savoury for breakfast
- oats with milk (any type) plus dried fruit if you need sweetness

2. Processed deli meats (nitrates used as preservatives in them are carcinogenic)
- naturally air dried meats are fine

3. Soda and energy drinks, including anything "diet" (empty calories)
- phsophorus in them removes calcium from your bones and teeth
- spike blood sugar levels (yes, even the diet ones)

4. Deep-fried fast foods (trans fats galore)
- pan fry or grill foods without batter

5. Margarine and fake butter spreads (trans fats)
- use real butter, olive oil, avocado or nut spreads instead

6. Highly processed plant-based 'meats' (too many artificial additives)
- find plant meats without preservatives
- alternatively make your own from legumes and vegetables

A 2002 Journal of Dermatology study found that applying fresh onion juice twice daily to the scalp significantly increased hair regrowth in patients with patch alopecia areata. Researchers believe the high sulfur content in onions helps stimulate collagen production and improve blood circulation to the follicles.

After 4 weeks, 73.9% saw more hair regrowth
After 6 weeks, 86.9% saw more hair regrowth

While effective for this, evidence is limited for other types of hair loss, such as male pattern baldness. But there's no harm in trying it (except maybe add something that smell nice to the onion juice).

Scientists say rose essential oil might literally beef up your brain tissue.

The study showed that overall grey matter in the brain grew, especially in a spot called the posterior cingulate cortex, which helps with memory and associative thinking. It’s the same region that shrinks in Alzheimer’s patients.

So go smell some roses as they are quite literally really good for your brain. They don't just smell divine, they are actually wonderful.

Drinking coffee on an empty stomach can worsen gut health issues like heartburn and increase anxiety due to faster caffeine absorption.

DIGESTIVE ISSUES
Coffee stimulates hydrochloric acid in the stomach to start digestion. Without any food inside the stomach, this can irritate the stomach lining, causing acid reflux, heartburn or cramping.
It can speed up intestinal transit, leading to bloating or loose stools, especially if you have a sensitive stomach, irritable bowel syndrome or inflammatory bowel disease.

HORMONES & MOOD
Morning coffee can raise cortisol level (stress hormone), so increasing stress, anxiety and nervousness.
No food before your first cup of coffee means faster caffeine absorption, intensifying effects like anxiety, rapid heart rate and irritability.

BLOOD SUGAR & ENERGY
Coffee on an empty stomach can cause a spike and then a crash in blood sugar. This can result in fatigue, hunger and irritability.

WHAT TO EAT
