How to Perform the Scrying Shadows Dark Moon Ritual:
1. For this dark moon ritual, you’re going to practice scrying to see your true shadows.
2. Gather all your items, cleanse your space (sage),dim the lights and cast your circle. If you can do the entire ritual by candlelight only, that’s best. Casting your circle, just walk around your space clockwise drawing a virtual circle around the space you will sit.
3. Light the black candle (if you don't have black, you can tie a black string around any candle) and put it close to the bowl of water or mirror so that the light reflects off of the water/mirror. Dedicate your black candle to the Dark Moon.
“I dedicate this black candle to the Dark Moon—
Womb of silence, keeper of shadows,
She who holds endings and unseen beginnings.
May this flame honor release, renewal, and rebirth.
In your stillness, I find wisdom.
In your darkness, I reclaim my power.
So mote it be.”
4. Light the dragon’s blood incense and offer it to spirit of the moon. Say something similar to your dedication, with respect and reverence. Note: For our purpose here, you can use Mugwort & Sandalwood incense if you cant find Dragons Blood.
5. Next, ground and relax into your otherworldly (aka meditative) state through breath-work, ritual music (great womb healing playlists for this on Spotify). However you shift your consciousness is what you’ll do now.
6. Begin to soften your gaze and say,
“By the Dark of the Moon,
I turn inwards to reflect upon my darkness.
The shadows, the secrets, the old wounds holding me back.
My shadows will now be revealed to me so that I may heal.”
After this;
a. Im afraid that/of..
or
b. No one can know..
7. Look at the candlelight in the mirror/water and allow images to play out.
If you don’t see any direct images in the reflection of the light, that’s alright. Any images that pop up in your head are messages from the moon, your higher self, your inner child, your subconscious....
Also, if you hear words or feel sensations, these are all things the Dark Moon is trying to show you.
8. Sit in the darkness, watching the candlelight reflection for as long as you feel necessary or until the incense burns down.
9. S***f out the candle and close your circle (walk counter clockwise around your space). Say thank you to the moon, and any guides or ancestors that may have helped. Clap a few times to dissipate the energy.
10. If you haven't already record your thoughts, any images seen, any sensations, sounds, symbols, letters. Even if you cant articulate what happened, trust that you moved something into the light. You may not even understand for a few days, and thats absolutely normal, the answer will come to you.
11. Shadows are not fun to deal with. Be prepared to do some soul searching and acknowledge the shadows for what they are. Then release them. Let them go. If you need to do a releasing ritual, now is a good time. Otherwise, do something you enjoy, play a song that makes you happy, eat something you love, anything to fill the void you created with love and joy.
