Jackie Lynn Gatewood, 42, New Albany, IN, passed away at home on Sunday, August 18th, 2024. She was born on March 27th, 1982 in Louisville, Kentucky. She attended Doss High School and was a proud homemaker for her family.
Jackie loved to cook for her family, she was fashionable and fun, she tried all kinds of hairstyles and makeup and she was one of the rare few that could pull every look off. She loved to dance and listen to music. Jackie had a beautiful singing voice and would often share it with the world
Her children and grandchildren were her heart and she treasured them above all else. She was happiest when she was loving on her family and making sure they were taken care of. Jackie was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Jackie was preceded in death by; 2nd child Alonzo Lindsey also birth mother, Jeanna Gayle Howard; and nephew, Kain Micheal Pickford.
Left to cherish her memory; Adoptive parents Peggy and Don Gatewood. Sons, 1st born Detrick Bruce, 3rd born Alonzo Trea Gatewood, 4th born Alonzo Athen Gatewood & daughter in law Tori Bryant; grandson, Leontay "Diddles" Bruce, and two granddaughters Asani Mae and Onyx Rose; sisters, Yalanda Gatewood, Stephanie Lamer, Tracie Shofner, and Jennie Crask; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Market Street Chapel of the Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes located at 1119 E. Market Street, New Albany, IN on Friday, August 23rd from 12 PM – 2 PM. Funeral Service will be at 2 PM.

So I took the Voila app and played with a few old pics. I really think they look beautiful.
Carlos Gatewood, Sally Gatewood Bennett, Rhoda Harrod Gatewood Zweydoff and Delores “Peaches” Zweydorff. There may be a chance eye color is off as Voila interprets the black and white photo.

Some more back story on the bank robbery. There were actually several. I believe 3 total. The leader of the gang Carlos belonged to was "Stribby" Tincher, who was related to Carlos. Stribby's name was actually William Tincher. Annie Tincher was Carlos' mother. I have not made the exact relationship to Carlos as of yet. Stribby and another man were electrocuted for the death of a bank guard during one of the last two robberies.
I am really glad I listened to Betty Brooks. It would have taken a longer time for sure to figure out the truth about Carlos.
Always remember to memorize or write down the stories your parents, grandparents and other relatives tell you about the past.

1940 census. Look at the transcription for Luther Harrod, Rhoda's father. Due to Carlos' escapades Rhoda was basically a single mom of 5. Sally had not been born and Carlos, Jr passed in 1938 right before Wayne was born. Rhoda must have been a remarkable mother. Yes, she lives with her parents but she is working in the shoe factory. She also worked for Judge O'Rear who Wayne spoke fondly of. The Judge would buy the kids new shoes every year which was no small gift in those days.
