Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy is one of the most effective treatments for PTSD and trauma-related conditions. It helps individuals gradually approach the memories, feelings, and situations they’ve been avoiding—things that often trigger intense distress.

PE typically involves 12–15 weekly sessions with a trained clinician, using methods like imaginal exposure (revisiting the trauma memory in detail) and in vivo exposure (gradually re-engaging with feared places or activities).

The goal isn’t to erase trauma. It’s to reduce its grip—and build confidence, safety, and control in everyday life.

Hope is real, but it doesn’t always look like a sunrise or a slogan. Sometimes, it’s calling a friend or surviving another hour.

At DBSA, we know peer support can be life-changing, especially during crisis. That’s why we’re expanding our Peer Specialist curriculum to better equip peers to help those with suicidal thoughts. If peer support helped you through suicidal ideation, your story matters and could inspire others.

As Su***de Prevention Month approaches, we invite you to share your story—privately or publicly. Visit https://www.dbsalliance.org/share-your-wellness-with-peers/ to submit, or message us privately.

If you are having thoughts of death or su***de, call 988 or text DBSA to 741-741. For immediate help, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.

Trauma can take root in everyday roles—especially when those roles come with stigma or pressure.

At DBSA, we hear from mothers navigating postpartum trauma, people carrying generational pain in silence, and workers facing retraumatization in rigid workplaces.

Healing requires more than diagnosis—it requires context, community, and culturally informed care.

September is coming—and with it, Su***de Prevention Month.

At DBSA, we recognize that peer support can be life-changing at every stage of a wellness journey—especially during moments of crisis. That’s why we’re expanding our Peer Specialist curriculum to better equip peers to support others experiencing thoughts of su***de.

If you’ve experienced suicidal ideation and found strength through the support of someone with lived experience, your story could help someone else hold on.

We’re collecting stories of hope—stories where peer connection made all the difference.

Share yours at https://www.dbsalliance.org/share-your-wellness-with-peers/ or message us privately.

If you are having thoughts of death or su***de, call 988 or text DBSA to 741-741. If you need immediate assistance, call 911 or go to the nearest hospital emergency room.
