Did you know that walking together in nature creates a calm, low-pressure space where children feel safe to communicate and connect through shared experiences.
Try a “Nature Treasure Hunt”—ask your child to find something soft, something green, or something that makes a sound. As they show you their treasures, model rich language like “a feather! It’s fluffy.” That little exchange builds vocabulary, attention, and joy all at once.

Drawing opens up a playful, pressure-free way for children to express thoughts, feelings, and ideas—especially when words are still finding their way. In line with The Can-Do approach, it’s not about perfect pictures but about connection: every scribble can spark communication, build confidence, and help you tune into your child’s unique voice.

Having a child who isn’t learning language ‘just like that’ can be really worrying. Parents find themselves plummeted into a world of professionals and appointments, therapy plans and meetings.
The focus of this page is to help you feel develop the skills to support your child at home in everyday interactions as well as help you feel listened to and supported.
I am Joanne Jones, I live in the North West of England, with my husband Stuart and our four children (Emily, Alex, Alana and Mathilda) We also have a lot of animals, but that’s another story!
I have been a Speech and Language , Therapist, working within the NHS and privately for 20 years. I have worked with a huge number of families over the time but my main interest has been working with babies and young children with feeding and language difficulties.
I love working with parents and supporting them to develop the skills to become their child’s best therapist and teacher. As a mum, I know I would want to be in a position to optimise my child’s development and so I have always loved helping other parents do the same.
People’s access to Speech and Language Therapy is patchy and so I decided I wanted to set up an affordable and accessible support system that would be there for parents when they needed it.
In 2013 I opened a preschool nursery and completed my nursery qualifications and in November 2015 I became a post natal doula. These two additional strings to my bow, give me a unique perspective and skills to look at the whole child and to support parents in a coaching, supportive style rather than an advisory style often seen in early years services.
I would love to get to know you and help you along the bumpy road, I promise to give you the tools, support mechanisms and ideas so you can confidently understand your child’s strengths and challenges and empowered to help them achieve their potential.
This page is for you, so be part of the conversation, message me, comment, like and share and let’s shine the spotlight on language difficulties in preschool children for others to be part of.
I look forward to getting to know you over the coming months
