Crab salad
In today’s post we wanted to visualize different stages and show examples of what soft foods, solids foods, transformation foods and post-recovery foods could look like ☺️ Here you can see a gradual change of amounts of food and ingredients added to the meals 💚 We start with some imitation crab, Greek yogurt and simple spices and then move on to crab salad with edamame which is high in both protein and fiber ☺️ For the post-recovery meal we added some cucumber as well for some extra crunchiness. Cucumber has little nutritional value in comparison to other foods, therefore it is better to focus on more nutritional dense foods during the recovery 🥰

Swipe right to see the transformation and the different stages ☺️

Let’s talk about cashews and the importance of serving sizes! 🥜 These bad boys are super nutritious, and like all nuts, are a very important part of a gastric sleeve diet. Cashews, together with almonds, peanuts and pistachios, have the highest protein content of all nuts 💪🏼

They also contain good amounts of iron, selenium, magnesium and of course, healthy fats✅ Eating cashews raw is such a great snack! They taste good and help to satisfy the crunchy sensation that a lot of us crave 😬

Even though nuts are a great snack for bariatric patients, we have to be mindful of the serving sizes. Just oz of unsalted unroasted cashews is about 157 calories, which can make it easy for us to lose track of our calorie count. To avoid this, always use the appropriate measuring spoons or weigh it on a food scale to be even more precise.

Hope all this info helps! Much love and have a great day! 💚

☕️ Can you or can’t you have coffee after bariatric surgery? 🤔 Most clinics and surgeons have different guidelines, which causes a bit of confusion 🤷‍♀️ We recommend staying away from coffee (even decaf) until you start the soft foods stage. The reason why is because coffee is diuretic and causes dehydration, which will work against your goal of staying hydrated. Coffee can also cause heartburn and irritate the stomach during the healing process during post-op.

If you introduce coffee to your diet, try to consume coffee in moderation with no more than 8 oz of coffee per day. As always when introducing new foods post surgery, start with small amounts to see what works for your body 💚 Avoid calorie-dense milk like half and half and adding sugar to your coffee.

Coffee flavored protein shakes are a great way to get your coffee craving satisfied, while getting your protein as well ✅ Here is our delicious Iced Coffee Protein Shake as an example 😍

Do you guys drink coffee after your surgery? ☕️

Buffalo Potato and Chicken Salad 🥰 Super delicious and packed with protein ✅ For this recipe we use chicken breast, potatoes, red onion and parsley together with our homemade spicy buffalo dressing with hot sauce and greek yogurt🤤 Perfect as a lunch recipe and for meal prepping. Ready in 20 minutes!

Dressings can often be fatty and calorie dense. We therefore prefer to make our own dressings to make sure we get a well-balanced and healthy meal ☺️ Hot sauces are usually an easy and low-calorie way of adding flavor to a dish for example 🌶 When doing yogurt based dressings, make sure the yogurt is non-fat and plain to avoid unwanted ingredients and extra calories ✅

Need to add more fiber to your diet? 🤔 Fiber plays a big role in helping us maintain regular bowel movements and helps if you feel constipated or bloated. One easy way to add fiber is by eating legumes like chickpeas. Hummus is a perfect side dish or a healthy snack together with some veggie sticks. We recommend doing your own hummus at home since store bought options often contain a lot of oil, which adds a lot of calories.

We recommend hummus from stage 4 (4 weeks out of surgery). For more tips, check out our website! Link in bio 💚
