ANOTHER RESOLUTION OR THE SOLUTION!!!
A new year calls for new resolutions, right ... or does it? It’s a time we are emphatically drawn to what we want to change, have, do or lose to make our lives better, richer and more purposeful.
We deliberate over our plans and resolutions with determination and long to prove to others (or ourselves) that this is the year we’ll (finally) make things happen!
What if instead of looking forward to what we can have, we looked back at what we already have or not search for something
new and better but to appreciate what is old or at least there and valuable?
True, we live in a world where it’s cool to be in with the latest trend or an updated and improved model. However, new doesn’t guarantee best performance or longevity and certainly not when it
comes to material things! The main reason being that we have no control over it: as a product it’s designed to have a specific function, which we invest in, rely upon and utilise.
Relationships, however, are quite different ... and thank goodness! That’s not to say that they, too, aren’t fast becoming a commodity for many of us. We can dip in and out of them, be euphoric
about them or downright disgusted by them. Consequently, we can cling to them for dear life or do everything we can to sever any connection as we ready ourselves for the next replacement. The
difference then, is we essentially have control over how we engage in our relationships. If we change our attitude and behaviour, chances are we will foster the same in the other. And It’s not just
possible but absolutely probable!
Our relationships, especially those between family, friends, work colleagues or indeed people we meet for a short while, can give us meaning unlike nothing else in life. They are a wonderful gift
from God; a surefire way of showing us who we are or who we’re not and expose areas for growth, as we discover truths about ourselves. Choosing to focus on ‘relationships for life’ as opposed to the ‘things in life’, doesn’t just become a resolution but could turn out to be ‘the solution’ for an ongoing prosperous and purposeful one.
My prayer for 2024 is threefold:
1. It brings you back in touch with what or who you already have
2. You see a side of yourself not accessed before
3. It births a fresh perspective and renewed sense of adventure in your current relationships.
Blessings in abundance!!
