Waves Grief Support and Healing Transformation Center Free grief support in a setting comfortable to you by appointment only And so the name for this center of healing revealed itself. We are not counselors.

Waves was shaped by Denise's own experiences with grieving and born from a place where the past anticipates the needs of the future and meets it in the perfect crest of the wave between the past and future called the present. As Denise described her vision of this center, a wave of support carried her like a surfer forward. And finally, many people find that the strong feelings associated with gri

eving hit them in waves. Grief is a natural response to losses of all kinds and is in direct proportion to the importance in our lives of the person/creature, place, or thing lost. We each experience grief differently, but it is through embracing the experience that we are able to move forward. Waves Grief Support and Healing Transformation Center is a safe place to explore the very raw feelings that often overcome us when we are grieving. We believe that healing naturally occurs when our healthy grieving process is supported. We meet by appointment only to share our own experiences and to find strength and hope in others' stories. We do not give advice. We are peers who understand that life comes with ups and downs, and by meeting regularly we find that support helps smooth out the rough spots. We have found that supporting our body, mind, and soul through the grieving assists our healing. We believe in meditation, yoga, massage including craniosacral therapy, good nutrition, art, music, direct eye contact, laughter, hugs, and prayer as healing tools. Waves has a lending library of healing books, CDs, and DVDs. Waves offers its services to grieving people free of charge. Does your sadness overflow into tears sometimes? If so, do you honor them by giving them space when it's safe to? Have you looked at yourself in the mirror when you're crying? Those tears are precious and beautiful, and they join us to every single human who has ever and will ever live. They help move us into the now, the very now that is the essence of being, of existing. Let your body do what it was designed by nature to do. If you use tissues, you can count the number you used when you feel like you've let it all out. Was this a 3-tissue cry? 10? 15? All of it is sacred. You will know when you're finished for now. Trust it. And if you feel it welling up again, it's okay. See where it takes you.

BBH Big Bend Hospice is in need of two Comfort Callers. Comfort Callers are responsible for reaching out to patient care givers of their assigned area to check in and see how they are doing. This helps BBH stay one step ahead of patient needs and any issues that may arise. It also helps many caregivers who just need to vent to a listening ear. Comfort Callers stop by the BBH office once a week for 3 hours at a time to fulfill their assigned duties. Anyone interested would need to go through the BBH volunteer onboarding process, which involves a background check and training. If you are interested, please reach out to Mary Katherine, by email mkaven@bigbendhospice.org or by phone at 850-567-7841.

Do you know about Shared Death Experiences (SDEs)? They are like Near Death Experiences (NDEs), but a living family member, friend, or compassionate bystander shares the experience with the dying person. These are being documented and studied so that we can understand them better. Doctors, nurses, and hospice workers are among the people who have had them. William Peters is at the forefront of this research, and this is a great opportunity to learn more about SDEs.

The Shared Crossing Project will be co-hosting with the International Association for Near-Death Studies their 2024 Spring Symposium. This Symposium titled, Shared Death Experiences: What Healthcare Providers--and Everyone--Need to Know, will be held online April 20, 2024. CEU's for RNs and licensed...
