I’ve decided to share this on my business page as a continuation of being true and authentic to myself.
This is a discovery I made in 2020 and had confirmed by a doctor in September of 2021.
It was a huge relief to me to finally have answers as to why I struggled with socializing, in jobs, and with relationships. The awareness of my sensory issues became greater as well. These issues have been part of my entire life and looking back at my childhood through this lens has been helpful.
There are lots of things I’ve learned about being autistic thanks to other autistic creators who share their experiences online. I don’t think I would have figured this out so soon without TIKTOK.
I prefer identity first language instead of person first. So describe me as autistic, not a person with autism. I don’t use labels such as high functioning. My support needs change depending on my “forks” (google fork theory).
I wanted to share this important part of my life with you because I want my daughter to know it’s okay to be different. Autism is genetic and she might also be autistic, time will tell.
Im also ADHD which makes my traits interesting and sometimes contradictory.
I think my neurotype has actually helped me be a better card reader and reiki practicioner. It helps me notice patterns, see small details, and have empathy (there is a common misconception that all autistic people lack empathy, that doesn't apply to me although it can be the truth for some autistics which is perfectly okay too).
Thanks for reading. 💜
