Since launching EmPATH in 2021, M Health Fairview has supported more than 10,000 patients experiencing a mental health crisis, fundamentally changing how care is delivered in those critical moments. Here are the numbers:

• Hospitalizations reduced from 30–40% to just 6%
• Repeat emergency visits decreased to 17%

These outcomes reflect a model designed to improve access, optimize utilization, and better support patients and care teams alike.

🔗 Explore the story beyond the numbers and what it means for the future of care in the comments.

Lennox Staricha became the first child in the Upper Midwest to receive a living partial heart transplant — a groundbreaking procedure using donor tissue that can grow with them. Fewer than 60 of these procedures have been performed nationwide. For infants with complex congenital heart disease, it offers the possibility of fewer surgeries and a stronger future.

Breakthroughs like this don’t happen alone. They’re built on decades of partnership, expertise, and a shared commitment to patients. Fairview’s and University of Minnesota Physicians' renewed and expanded clinical partnership agreement: Strategic Partnership for Minnesota’s Healthcare Future will continue to move medicine forward for patients like Lennox.

Five years ago, we set out to build a better model for emergency mental healthcare.
Since then, EmPATH at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital has helped over 10,000 patients experiencing a mental health crisis get connected with the right care when they need it most in an environment built around people, not just processes.

For therapists like Madeline Mulcahy, MSSW, LICSW, that vision comes to life every day. “Our team helps them move from that initial moment of uncertainty to a place where they feel safe, understood, and ready for what comes next.”

We are reconnecting with our roots as Fairview – a name grounded in more than 100 years of care, community, and trust.

This transition reflects what matters most to the people we serve: strong relationships, dignity in every interaction, and access to exceptional care when it’s needed most.
While our name is changing, our commitment to delivering human-centered care for every patient remains the same.

Chris Lawrence, Fairview’s Chief Marketing and Brand Officer, shared the thinking behind this next chapter with Becker's Hospital Review. Read the full interview in our comments.

Access to preventive care shouldn’t be out of reach.

Through M Health Fairview’s free colonoscopy program, more than 500 Minnesotans have received life-saving screenings. It's more than a milestone, it's a testament to our teams' dedication to removing barriers, expanding access, and finding cancer early when it matters most.

“Different communities face different barriers to screening,” said Francisco Ramirez, supervisor of community education and outreach. "That’s why we spend so much time in the community sharing information and working one-on-one with patients, so they feel comfortable taking that step.”

500 screenings is just the beginning. Learn more about this milestone and its impact in our comments.

Last week, we helped 40 students from Princeton Public Schools ISD 477 explore what a career in healthcare might look like for them. The Princeton high schoolers got a closer look at areas across the hospital, from imaging, to surgery, rehab, and the Birthplace as part of their Career Crawl experience.

By investing in opportunities like this, we’re helping students see what’s possible — and strengthening the future of healthcare in the communities we serve.

Now on display at the M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center – West Bank, The Women of Wounded Knee travelling exhibit shares the voices and lived experiences of the women from the 1973 occupation. Through archival materials and oral histories, the exhibit gives space for these stories to be heard and live on.

Supporting the health and wellbeing of our indigenous communities includes acknowledging and sharing this part of our history. We’re proud to partner with the Warrior Women Project who joined together with our Indigenous Healing Circle ERG to bring this to life.

Now through Apr. 1, we invite our community to experience the exhibit, learn, and reflect.
