I have decided to take the plunge and transition further to become more self-employed, offering a more flexible availability to clients requiring psychotherapy. From Monday 12th August I will be opening up extra sessions on a Monday and Saturday throughout both days. We often avoid or numb our feelings because emotions can be overwhelming and uncomfortable. Instead of dealing with them, we might distract ourselves with activities like eating comfort food, binge-watching shows, or scrolling through social media. This avoidance gives us a temporary escape but doesn't address the root of the feelings. Numbing, on the other hand, is an attempt to shut down these emotions completely, like mindlessly eating a whole bag of chips to drown out the noise of a bad day. These strategies offer quick relief but can lead to bigger issues like anxiety or health problems down the line.

Feeling your feelings is crucial because emotions are signals that something needs attention. Ignoring them can prevent healing and growth. To start, pause and reflect on what you're truly feeling, name the emotion, allow yourself to feel it without judgment, and find healthy ways to express it. Embracing your emotions is a sign of strength and self-awareness, leading to better emotional well-being in the long run. So next time you're tempted to distract or numb yourself, try to pause and process instead

Long, deep breaths released slowly calm the stress. The polyvagus is the largest nerve in our bodies, from our heads, to our hearts and stomachs it delivers the messages we call fight, flight, freeze and fawn. Anxiety throws people into fight, flight, freeze and fawn. Learn to breathe. Before bed do 10 long, deep breaths and release each one slowly to the count of 8. You will sleep better and wake up less anxious and less stressed.

When we are stressed, angry or sad, every cell in our body feels those emotions. Breathing - taking in oxygen, clears our brain of the chemicals that cause the reaction and helps our bodies to reach a more balanced state.

Many people are choosing remote therapy as it suits their needs or lifestyle. However, this is not for everyone. From August/September 2024 I hope to have 2 or 3 new available appointments available for in person therapy in the Wootton area of Northampton. Sometimes it is difficult for veterans or other uniformed services to ask for help. I have experience working with veterans, blue light and other uniformed services and can bring an understanding to therapy sessions that might make talking easier.
