Society for Medicinal Plants and Economic Development - SOMPED SOMPED also works in collaboration with other organisations that deal mainly with medicinal plants and drug development.

The main activities of the Organization include active support for the principles of biodiversity conservation; dissemination of information on research into medicinal plants for health and economic development; organising and hosting international conferences relating to medicinal plants research, as well as the initiation, development and execution of innovative interdisciplinary projects at high scientific levels.

4TH ANNUAL SOMPED INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, 2019
We are pleased to announce the first call for the 4th Annual International Conference of the Society for Medicinal Plants and Economic Development to be held at the National Open University of Nigeria, Abuja, from 26 – 29 August 2019. The conference main theme is Herbal medicine: Panacea for Primary Health Care and Economic Development.

Call for papers
The Conference will focus on a broad range of topics about medicinal plants and economic development. The Organizers invite original scientific contributions and unpublished results in the following areas:

Cultivation and conservation of medicinal plants

Veterinary Phytomedicine & Animal Health

The conference language is English therefore; all abstracts must be written in English. It should be concise, not more than 250-300 words (this does not include the title, author’s names and addresses) and must include results and discussions. Please note that the name of presenting author should be underlined and will be considered as the corresponding author. Abstract submission is open between February 15 and May 30, 2019 and should be sent as attachment to Conf2019@somped.net

Early submissions are highly recommended. Abstracts that do not adhere to the set specifications will be returned to the authors for corrections. Only authors with accepted abstracts will receive personalized letters of invitation before or on 30 June 2019. Abstracts must be formatted according to the SOMPED guidelines. Click this link for a typical example. All abstracts will be reviewed by the Scientific Committee before making the selections. An abstract will either be selected for a short lecture (15 mins) or poster presentation.

Conference Registration Fees: N25 000.00 (standard); N20 000.00 (students). Dinner and Excursion inclusive. Please note that for ease of payment, registration fees for delegates from Southern Africa is R3500.00 payable into SOMPED bank account in South Africa while the fee for delegates from outside Africa is $200.00 also payable into the SOMPED domiciliary bank account.

Accommodation
All delegates are to make individual arrangements for their accommodation. The list of available hotels and other accommodations near the National Open University of Nigeria will be made available in the second conference announcement.

It has come to the notice of the Management Committee that some members are expressing their inability to attend the 2019 conference because of the $50 membership fee.

Please note that the membership fee is not a condition for conference attendance. It can be paid any time within the year at members' convenience.

We hope to see you all at SOMPED Conference 2019 in Abuja, Nigeria.

Dear Colleagues,

2018 AGM Resolutions

At the just concluded 3rd AGM held on Monday 27th August 2018, during the SOMPED’18 Conference, the following resolutions were unanimously passed:

1. That members should start paying annual membership due of $50.00 for full members and $20.00 per student member, to commence next financial year; i.e. from September 2018.

2. That both Domiciliary and Savings accounts for SOMPED should be opened with First Bank PLC, Nigeria to ease transactions for Nigerian members.

3. That the next conference (SOMPED 2019) should be held in Abuja, Nigeria, in the last week of August 2019.

4. The new SOMPED Management Committee members for the next 2 years are:
