My BSR Story
I was introduced to Body Stress Release by my mom when I was in my early thirties, which was about forty-four years ago. After the birth of my second son, Richard, I experienced severe back pain due to physical labour from gardening without allowing time to recover from pregnancy. I relied on painkillers for nearly seven years.
When my mom suggested I see the Meggersees, I was sceptical and referred to them as ‘quacks.’ Nevertheless, she made an appointment and took me there, knowing from her own experience that I needed it. This was in the early 80s, shortly after they returned from their studies in the USA and were still developing the Body Stress Release technique.
Following my first release, I stopped taking painkillers for over twenty years! That initial visit transformed my life and started an incredible journey for my family and me. In January 1989, Trevor and I left our jobs, sold our home, and moved our family to a farm in Harkerville, near Plettenberg Bay. We worried about potential back pain without BSR practitioners in the area.
Mom's visit led to us learning that the Meggersees would be training BSR students that year. Excitedly, we tried to contact them and were ultimately accepted into the program. We graduated in March 1990 as the second class of BSR practitioners.
After graduation, we returned to our farm, where we set up our practice. Navigating the challenge of finding clients was tough since we were the first practitioners outside Cape Town and many people had not heard of Body Stress Release. Gradually, we began attracting clients from afar.
Years later, we sold our farm and joined Gail and Ewald in acquiring Five Lakes Farm. While the partnership had its challenges, it was a wonderful period in our lives, allowing us to engage with numerous BSR students.
After Trevor's sudden death in 2011, I moved to live with my son in England, eventually returning to South Africa in 2013 to establish a practice in Bergvliet. I later bought a plot in Betty’s Bay, where I planned to build a holiday home for my family. Tragically, my son Richard passed away shortly before we were set to begin the project.
Despite the hardships, I completed my new home in December 2018. Today, I practice in my cozy cottage in Betty's Bay and in Lakeside with friends. Throughout my career, I've had the chance to travel and practice BSR in different locations, enriching my journey. I remain grateful and passionate about this life-changing modality, and I thank Gail and Ewald every day.
