As part of Acacia Park's 40th birthday celebrations, we also hosted a Market Day. With the huge number of stalls, we had to utilise the outdoors to accommodate everyone. Phoenix Hotel ran the beer garden, and Ford was there to display their beautiful cars. SANBS was also there to source willing blood donors. We were overwhelmed by the community interest and support - thank you. Watch this space for our next market!

The Acacia team recently hosted a Health Day where service providers joined us by introducing residents to their services and products. The speakers on the day were Liezl Steyl from Hartmann, Karen Vermeulen, a family therapist, and Mauritz Blignaut from Kind2Hear. Lancet Laboratories offered free blood pressure monitoring and blood glucose checks. Every resident and staff member of Acacia also received a gift pack on this special day. A huge thank you to our service partners and to the residents who joined us.

Residents and employees from Acacia Park were in for a treat as we hosted a Gorgeous Granny Competition. This was probably one of our all-time favourite events. Judges were treated to some eats and wine while our care practitioner, Lashaun, did the pampering and makeup of these beautiful ladies. Apart from the 10 entries, we also had the privilege of having Aunty Stienie from the TV series "Agter elke man" join us. She however, forgot her evening gown but at least her pajamas were ironed. Congratulations to Mrs. Moonyeen Botha, Mrs. Mem Terblanche, and Mrs. Christa Bosman for winning on the day, although we want to congratulate every beautiful lady who was courageous enough to participate. Many thanks to our judges Carine Beylefeld, Karen Vermeulen, and Emsie Malan. We greatly appreciate your help in making a very difficult decision. "Rock on, beautiful ladies from Acacia Park!

The Go Turquoise for the Elderly Campaign serves as a vital reminder of the importance of caring for our senior citizens and ensuring their safety and dignity. We at Acacia Park participate in this campaign every year. We had the nicest cupcakes on May 15th at the start of the campaign. Residents helped to drape the trees with turquoise cloth, and the opportunity to hug-a-tree. Thank you for your support. Remember, every citizen has the moral and legal obligation to report any suspected elder abuse to the authorities.

Every year during May, the team at Acacia Park hosts a special Nurses' Day function for our care practitioners and professional nurses to celebrate them and the work they do. On this day, the team has a candlelighting event where everyone recites the Nurses' Pledge. Thank you to the wonderful employees at all our villages for your commitment, empathy, support, dedication and hard work. We value you!

At Acacia Park we use every opportunity to socialise and participate in activities and events. Why? Because we can, and it is GREAT fun!
This was one such opportunity - Orange Juice Day! The foyer was filled with delicious cold orange juice and oranges, allowing residents and staff to stock up on their Vitamin C intake. Vitamin C, a smile, and a warm hug - no better medicine to keep the winter bugs at bay.

The safety of our community, residents and employees is of paramount importance. For this reason, all employees must be trained in First Aid and fire safety. The team at Acacia Park recently completed their first aid training. Gert, our newly appointed property maintenance manager, was eager to practice and master his skills. Thank you to all our staff for your commitment and passion for your work and willingness to continue to learn and enhance your skills!

As part of Acacia Park's 40th birthday celebrations, the Men’s Club committed to a "shine your light" project. They took empty glass liquor bottles, removed all the labels and placed a light inside the bottle. These lights were lit on the evening of the 24th of May at 7 pm throughout the village to celebrate our birthday. A big thank you to all our male residents and Mr. Thompson for this wonderful idea. What a pretty picture it was!

Our Women’s Club at Acacia, led by a resident volunteer, is wonderfully creative. The ladies enjoyed making and decorating small gift parcel-bunnies in celebration of Easter. Thank you, Magda Nagel, for your dedication and love. Well done to all on your lovely creations.

At Acacia Park we are excited to have an occupational therapist, Ronel, who regularly visits the village to talk about something interesting on how to age well. In June she addressed the very important topic on fall prevention. The most important factor is to keep exercising, have your vision and hearing tested and wear the right shoes. Make sure your environment is well-lit and not too cluttered. Thank you Ronel. As always you left us with a lot to think about.

To ensure we stay up to date with information on dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and to continue enhancing our services to residents, employees are required to attend training. Thank you to Emsie Malan from ADASA who facilitated the training.
